There in spirit only - well, I’m on the train heading home so it’s the telly for me the night.
Awful news about Comrie - I know he’ll be gutted too.
Hopefully the new player will fit right in and we get out of this rut, starting tonight.
Please post team lines if ye get them afore me.

With a makeshift defence up against one of the most physical strikers in the league and decent wide players, I fear this could be cricket scores. Hopefully the team can prove me wrong but I think even the most optimistic fans will be dreading this, especially if we couldn’t beat Arbroath and Queen’s Park

I am certainly not brave enough to predict the score tonight
However to have half a chance , Firstly we need to stop the mistakes at the back as almost everytime a cross comes into the box its a goal for the opposition
Another area that is of concern is where we are going to get a goal from ?
I just hope the Team gets stuck in about them and stops partick playing !

That`s them just listed in numerical order...
No idea how we are going to shape up. Guessing Otto in midfield with Allan, probably going to be a back four with Benjamin or Fagan-Walcott at right back as I can`t see who`d play right wing back if it was a three? Front three maybe by the looks of things too, although more likely to be one up front and three supporting in a kind of 4-2-3-1. This could be anything.

Wee eck all these players are capable of a wee bit of skill here and there, it doesn’t make them championship standard. Explains why you defend the players you do tho!
I’m getting there with toddy though, one goal from being our joint top scorer this season and has barely played.
We’ve escaped one there, getting the breaks in this game anyway!

Wow! Fantastic result and I’m delighted to be proved majorly wrong there! When the first goal went in I feared the worst but we rallied together and with a bit of luck got our biggest and most important victory this season. Otoo never put a foot wrong tonight - he was absolutely outstanding. He never wasted the ball, won it back so many times and was incredible with his positioning. I think Kane allows us to create a lot more up front. His link up play is excellent and holds up so much and never gives up. Credit to Benjamin tonight as well. He still had a few scary moments but his header was fantastic and he looked a lot more settled tonight. Hopefully he goes strength to strength. Having Todd back was massive as well. Thank god him and Jakubiak were able to finish without any niggles tonight.
Onto Tuesday now and another massive game we cannot afford to lose. I pray we take confidence from this as many (including myself) expected nothing tonight and they’ve proved us wrong. Hopefully they can keep it up. I’ll predict Caley to pump us on Tuesday again!

First "offside" goal is too tight to call. Second one is poor - I can understand that maybe the linesman didn`t flag as he didn`t know there was a deflection but between the four officials there they have to see it came off a Pars player and not a Thistle man.
Todd with a great goal, the guy is a superstar. Thought Allan did OK, thought he and Otoo complimented each other earlier in the season and it worked out OK today. Good set piece delivery too. Kane put in a shift as did Jakubiak when he came on and we managed the game really well once it got to 3-1. No new injuries and a bit of luck with decisions, can`t argue with that!

Dunfermline manager James McPake told BBC Scotland: "For the group, for what it means, it’s huge. For that young group, there’s some experience in it, but it’s likely the worst run they’ve been on."
"There’s been good performances in that run, we were decent enough last week without winning the game, but the longer it goes on it feels like you’re bluffing them when you tell them they had a good game. I’m proud of them and delighted for them tonight.
"The resiliency was the big worry. When the first goal goes in - at a really tough place to come - it makes the final result even better."
Excellent and very appropriate comments from the manager.

I`ve said for a few weeks that we really needed a break at the right time. Nothing has been going our way at all so it was nice that we did get a big one tonight. And even better that we then went up the park to go 3-1 up straight after it.
We struggled a bit in the first half - just seemed far too easy to play through with pace out wide and space through the middle. However, for all that we were the weaker side in the first half, we must have had at least as many chances as they did. And nice that we did tyr to take advantage of their keeper being utter mince. It was big to equalise quickly and be 1-1 at half-time.
Matty Todd`s goal was brilliant. He`s the only player we have that could have scored that goal.
From 3-1 we actually played really well. Didn`t stop me being very nervous near the end, but we saw that game out as well as it`s possible to do. It made such a difference that we just tried to play simple football and keep going forward when we had the chance, unlike most of our wins where we`ve tried to slow it down and just gave the ball away in bad positions. We played simple football tonight and it worked for us. Glad to see it.

I thought that was a solid performance tonight. We looked more balanced and more positive going forward. It`s good to see the new lads getting on the scoresheet. It will do their confidence the world of good. They have demonstrated they can play at this level, and with more game time, they will improve. We had a lot more movement upfront, and Kane gave us more options. After a couple of poor results, tonight`s performance was a breath of fresh air.

Matty Todd’s contribution can’t be understated to that result.
As socks says, I don’t think any other player in our team could have carried that off in the manner he did.
Stays fit, he’ll be a huge seller for our club as he’s a natural.

First offside goal .. Graham was 3 yards offside but no one has noticed .. he then played the ball and the linesman raised his flag .. No goal
Second offside goal .. we won a watch
Great battling team performance Todds goal was superb .. Benjamin has silenced some of his doubters hopefully .. COYP
He wasn’t involved in that phase of play, that’s 100% not the reason the linesman raised his flag. Just another terrible call but who cares.
Thought Otoo was MOTM, absolutely solid performance. Last time we played them away bannigan and mcinroy bullied us in the middle, he fought for everything. Kane played well, definitely a better option than wighton for me.

So happy for James and Dave tonight. I thought we were pretty solid throughout overall. Little breaks have went for us tonight and we are absolutely taking them. Great goals. Otoo is better in midfield, but he is a versatile player. I thought Malachi quite rightly was awarded MOM. He was solid in defence and got us back in the game. He anticipated the rebound off the keeper, well, I thought.
Chris had a good game too in the central defence role. He is comfortable with the ball at his feet and instills confidence in the defence

Superb result as like most I wasn`t expecting much from the game tonight although I did have a sneaky underlying feeling that something good would happen in this match. Thought we were a bit all over the place in the first half but what a transformation a couple of goals can do for a team and we could have won by a bit more in the end. So we got a we bit of help from ref. but surely we are due a bit of luck in the run in till the end of the season. We`ll done pars and thank you for at last giving me an enjoyable night, so happy for the players

While Thistle`s second disallowed goal seemed to be a mistake by the linesman in not seeing a deflection, we only knew there was a deflection because the game was televised. Where there is no VAR, we must go with the perception of the officials, we can`t pick and choose what decisions are right or wrong. TV can`t be allowed to become an ad hoc VAR mechanism. We either have VAR or we don`t and at this stage, we don`t.

I think the linesman was watching the play instead of the line as he was clearly onside as the shot came in but could have looked offside after the deflection.

I saw Otoo play for Celtic B against us in a cup game a few years ago. He was captain and played left back. I was impressed by his strength and energy even then and his ability to overlap frequently.
This forum is buzzing after that result. Imagine how the players must feel ?

Nailed it, Socks. I wasn`t optimistic before the game, or even at halftime, truth be told, but in these situations, I like to engage in a bit of strawclutchery;
1. We`ve picked up more points away from home both this and last season.
2. There`s no such thing as a certainty in football, so there are no poor bookies.
3. "It`s a f@nny old game, Saint" - Jimmy Greaves. 😁

Aye, what Socks said. Matty Todd makes a big difference with his running power. Otoo showed he can be a real asset in midfield and Allan showed he can be effective beside more mobile players. Kane also holds the ball up better than any of our other strikers. Fagan Walcott was good beside Hamilton, and Benjamin improved a lot second half, in the first he was really struggling against Fitzpatrick - he won`t be the only full back that suffers against him. We didn`t get much from McCann or Holmes, McCann desperately needs a goal to settle him down, and Holmes didn`t look comfortable on the left, I am guessing he was there as his height was useful defending set pieces. Jak did really well when he came on, shame he didn`t get a goal.
It`s good we have another came coming up quickly, keep this going Pars.

Fantastic result and shows how tight this division is and what three points can do for you, more important knowing it was ICT next.
Trying to keep my feet grounded though, first half I thought we started reasonably well but were fortunate I felt with some of the chances we let Partick have that they should’ve done better with.
Don’t think I can stress enough how much I felt the importance of that quick equaliser was, little time for them to get their heads down and shows the worth in taking shots when the opportunity from distance presents itself.
Second half again, a little sketchy at times defensively but when we got the third we managed the game very, very well. You seen a confident Pars team for the rest of the game and how big a difference was that?
Having Todd and Jakubiak back made such an impact.
It shows what we’re capable of for sure and we must maintain this feel good factor and get something on Tuesday.

You can always look at these things two ways. From my perspective, I thought we played well. We competed and deserved to win. Sometimes, you make your own luck. We scored 3 goals at the end of the day, even coming from behind against the team sitting 3rd in the league and away from home.
The young lads who have come in are scoring goals, and we looked much more of a threat from set pieces. The movement upfront was much better, so we were more direct. We put their defence under pressure, and I thought Kane had a good game, and with that support alongside McCann, he played much better.
I think we had the right mix of youth and experience last night. My gut tells me on the performance last night that our bad days are behind us.

My view on the game early stages thought we start well maybe first 10 minutes then I thought Partick took control of the game and went ahead with a poor goal Mehmet has got to come and take that ball.
Thought after the goal Partick looked comfortable.
We get a break with the goal not sure if the Partick goalie should be doing better with Edwards shot but we take the chance and it`s 1-1.
I think from that moment the whole team got a lift and I honestly feel second half we were the better team and deserved to win.
Yes we got lucky with the offside goals but who cares.
Thought player wise the majority would get a strong pass mark however thought Mehmet was not at his best and unfortunately McCann wasn`t at his best.
Midfield has far more energy about it and I thought Allan had a good game.
Overall a very satisfying result

Mehmet seems to be held responsible for just about every goal we lose. I suspect, like most of us, he was expecting that ball to be cut out long before it got to Graham. Little has been said of the tremendous diving save he had in the first half (was it from Graham too?) similar to the one he had at Tannadice that kept us in the game.

We were lucky with the 2nd offside. The first may or may not have been, but we all get one or two of those in a season. Big deal.
Fact is, we came from behind away from home against the 3rd side, a very good side, and we wiped the floor with them in the second half.
Did you see the young lad`s face after he scored his goal. Sheer relief that maybe he won`t get such toxic criticism this week. I`m sure he had a tear in his eye.
Hopefully, now we can get back to encouraging the team rather than slaughtering them. It takes time for new players to mould, especially when they are accustomed to a totally different style.
I hope they continue to improve and enjoy their time with the Pars.
Certain posters are missing tonight again, as expected.

Well we were wildly fortunate to win that game but that’s football. The first disallowed goal was onside by at least half a yard.
The second I genuinely don’t know. Is there not some rule these days that you are offside when in an offside position and the ball comes to you from an opposing player who has not tried to play the ball. Ie in this instance the ball just hits our defender and goes through. He is not trying to play the ball therefore it is offside?
Massive result. Just need a win at the rugby now! :)

safe to say we got a few breaks last night although luckily no break for Otoo with that Robinson tackle, another shocker from Munro. wouldnt have called it a free hit last night but Tuesday in Inverness is the more important game, the result and confidence from it however is a massive boost going up there.

Really good second performance and we took full advantage but the officials really should have taken Partick out to dinner first!
Seen it as few times where we`ve lost the head when decisions are not going our way and end up getting beat.
Some good performances yesterday and evidence of fighting for the cause, a competitive midfield makes a world of difference so good to see that after finally making changes in there it’s already paid off. We seemed better set up yesterday although we’ll still a bit short of personal with holmes having to play out wide. Kane will be an asset when he’s a bit sharper and you can see what he gives you that out other strikers haven’t.
Swap McCann out for jak on Tuesday and look at who might be a better option than holmes and we’re at least competitive again. Been 7 games since a striker scored but surely it’s coming.
What`s the bets matty end up our top league goalscorer too, wighton injured for the rest of the season and can’t see where McCanns next goal is coming from.
Massive game on Tuesday as queens are at home to arbroath, would take a point.

Kane and Jakubiak up front…………
I can see those two running riot in this league.
I suspect jakubiak is one of the more gifted players at the club. His close control is on point.
Agree with those two up front

Their first was offside. We scored three. If they got their second, we still won 2 3, and we hit the post.
We totally dominated the second half and played well the first half of the first half.
How were we lucky?
If you`d actually maybe read the post correctly instead of jumping in, you might realise that all he said was that we got lucky with the second disallowed goal.
Not once did he say we were lucky with the overall result 🤦♂️🤦♂️😆
And if you read mine correctly, smart-ass, you would see I didn`t quote anyone specific. Who is "He?"

It`s true that we had luck, but also played very well 2nd half and I think deserved the win.
We`ve had no luck all season, so as long as you capitalise you make your own too.
Was great to see us scoring 3, going on 5 or 6 later on and not just sitting back defending for our lives. Thistle are a decent team, we managed them very well.

Jak was excellent last night coming on, held ball up really well, pressed and hassled them in possesion really effectively and was a great out ball option onto the left wing.
McCann could learn from him in that respect.

Why Can folk not just be happy we won and got a valueable 3 points , do they need to find fault and dissect everything ?
Does it matter if we were lucky ?
I will take a Lucky win every week as playing well and getting nothing ,
there`s an old adage that say`s better to be lucky than good !
But as everyone could see we certainly come out the second half and took the game by the scruff of the neck ! and I am certainly not going to complain about an offside decision that was wrong !
It wasn`t our fault the officials got a couple of things wrong , we still have to be disciplined and go and win the Game , this will give the whole team a massive lift

It’s nice, if slightly disorienting, [edit - as wee eck says] to wake up on a Saturday morning with the result already in the bag. I watched the entire game again on the i-player when I eventually got home – I don’t think I’ve done that since the cup semi-final replay at Pittodrie.
It was an interesting lineup – we stuck with the 4 at the back, but we seemed to be taking risks with Benjamin at RB, Todd starting and Holmes on the left. It looked like a 4-5-1 with Holmes, McCann and Todd presumably meant to provide support to Kane.
It was interesting to read the comments at half-time – I’m not sure how many were from people watching on TV but I was relatively pleased with the way we had been playing. I wondered if Benjamin had been targeted as a weak link and Edwards as a danger as Thistle seemed to try to get the ball wide a lot, putting pressure on Benjamin and nullifying Josh’s attacking threat. I saw McCann having a chat with the bench at a break in play, but whether he was being told to get back to help Benjamin, to stay forward or what, I don’t know. Holmes had been winning his fair share in the air so I was hoping that he would eventually find his man in a dangerous position sooner or later.
Regarding the offsides, the flag went up quickly for the first one and I wondered if the defence switched off a little – they shouldn’t have done, but maybe if the flag had stayed down they would have defended better. That’s the problem with “what if”s – anything might have happened. I don’t mind the referee visibly consulting his assistant (aren’t they wired up?) – e.g. “why didn’t you flag?” – “I thought the defender got a touch” “No it was the forward” for example but it’s rare for a ref to overrule a goal – if anything, it’s the other way round. (The goal that John Robertson scored at Tynecastle when the referee overruled his lino in April 1983 still rankles). So we got away with one there. (We might still have won though).
MFW (I still don’t feel I know him well enough to call him Malachi or even Mal) seems a bit of a character – he’s talking about scoring on Tuesday as well, which would be handy. Perhaps he’s going to be a good signing after all. And you couldn’t fail to share Benjamin’s excitement at scoring – I noticed Deniz forcing him to the front after the final whistle to take some applause.
Todd looked a mile offside but wasn’t – that’s what can happen if you time your run from deep – I always think it’s difficult for a linesman to keep one eye on the last defender and one on the ball when it’s 50 yards away, but he got that one spot on. A terrific take and finish and you could sense the relief, like, “I’ve still got it”.

One of the pleasures of following football is watching young players develop – Todd was one of the better youth team players, but he has improved beyond all recognition from his early first team outings – that’s a tribute to his hard work, and maybe there’s a lesson to be learned somewhere.
Otoo was my MotM – he seemed to have great strength and the ability both to win the ball from unpromising positions and to hold on to it. If he can add quality to his distribution he could be a star.
Overall, it was a terrific result, but I’m a little disappointed we didn’t score more. And finally, Friday night football in Glasgow (or any evening, for that matter) can be a nightmare with unexpected roadworks. My regular way home was blocked with no warning, and I followed the diversion round the houses until the signs disappeared and I ended up back where I started. I finally followed a long line of cars who were heading in more or less the right direction, until they vanished too. Still, I’ve now ticked off “see Provan Gas Works” from my bucket list.

Finally making changes so we can have a competitive midfield ? You’ll need to explain that one. Basically Todd was deemed fit and played. Paul Allan , a “player with no legs and sideways passing”, according to some, was preferred to Chalmers. Otoo in there because he does like to play him there if we have enough defenders.
As long as we score more goals than the opposition, I don’t think many will worry about who is scoring them ?

Luck?
Offside calls can be a bit of a lottery.
On Friday the ball ended up in the net three times, arguably four if you count Matty`s, where a tight offside decision needed to be made. All went in our favour.
I think they got all bar one right, but in that one they were lucky in that the ball took a deflection and bounced off Graham`s knee and into the net. We were lucky that it wasn`t given so it evened out.
If they do really want to play the victim about it, how about:
- the game where they were allowed to play until they equalised
- the goal that was given despite it going by the post
- the last game before lockdown where, in injury time again, they scored despite a foul on our keeper and the most obvious offside ever
If luck does all even out we`re still due some.

It’s not just the dodgy offside calls though - the referee penalised a few Thistle challenges which were maybe’s aye, maybe’s naw - but was more lenient with Pars tackling . Michael Stewart correctly questioned a few that were given.
We got the rub of the green at Firhill, had we been suffering similar officials’ decisions at EEP this forum would be in uproar.

His worst decision on fouls was not giving a red card to Robinson for a potential leg-breaking tackle on Otoo. Of course we all must defer to Michael Stewart who seems to be the self-appointed expert judge on all refereeing decisions in Scottish football.

No more and no less competent than some of the nonsense we`ve seen this season. Difference being we benefited on this occasion. The level of officiating is pretty poor and wildly inconsistent. I don`t think we should feel too bad and fall on our sword with this one.
Michael Stewart is an absolute knobjockey. Not being in the premier limits our TV coverage and he genuinely spoils it for me on the occasions we are televised. I can guarantee he wouldn`t be quite so vociferous had he been covering...oh I don`t know, Rangers v Hearts.

If Michael Stewart is objective he loses it when discussing anything relating to Craig Levein. He was very critical of him when he was in charge at Hearts. I got the impression it was personal and mutual. Last weekend he was quite scathing about St Johnstone`s approach against Rangers.
In the Championship we seem to get a mixture of established referees getting a rest from the Premiership, up-and-coming ones and a whole lot of time-servers who have never quite made it to the elite level. Whatever category they fall into they`re all susceptible to inconsistency. I must say I`ve never been impressed by Friday`s ref, David Munro, whenever I`ve seen him, either in the flesh or on TV.

Partick thistle had one clear goal ruled off, Pars had a clear straight red turned down. Given some of the luck we`ve had at Firhill in recent years and what Brian Graham gets away with off the ball that seems fair enough to me.
McFadden and Stewart sounded like they had money on a thistle win, so get it up them as well. Always impressed by Leanne Crichton, does her research and stays objective

"If they do really want to play the victim about it, how about:
...

..."
What`s that one about? I remember the others but no idea about that one.
However, I can also add an equaliser we were robbed of against them, where Nicky Phinn bundled in a rebound off the keeper that was given offside, shown in the highlights to be completely wrong. The fact that it must be about 15 years ago and that I still remember it quite clearly shows how gloriously petty the life of a football fan can be!
I try to look at these by thinking how I`d have felt had it been the other way, and on Friday I`d have been raging if we`d scored an equaliser that wasn`t given, and we`d then gone 3-1 down straight away. It was a bad decision, but it really was the only shocker that went our way. They definitely should have finished with 10 men, and one that nobody else has mentioned is the ridiculous foul that was given on their keeper in the first half. It didn`t go in as the header was kicked off the line but it was a shocker of a call.
I sometimes find Michael Stewart OK on the highlights programme and am more likely to agree with his view on an incident than any of the others they have on. However, when he does these Friday night games he annoys me by claiming to be knowledgable about things he`s ignorant about. As an example, twice this season he`s remarked on a typically poor Josh Edwards cross that it`s a surprisingly poor ball in, when the ball in the box from Edwards has been by far his biggest weakness this season and last.
His personal issue with Craig Levein, which he never shuts up about, also comes across as a bit pathetic now. I happened to be driving home about 5.30 last night and heard him on the radio, again having a go at Levein. Talk about the football if you want, but it doesn`t need to be so personal. He has a particularly forceful way of arguing a point, and that makes him useful for the currently awful format of Sportsound where it`s all about `incredible drama` and confrontation.

Socks, the previous poster was alluding to a game between Partick and Dundee United, I think, but maybe got a bit confused - or maybe it`s me. 🤔
United scored, but the ball hit the foot of the stanchion, supporting the net when they used to go right down to the ground and bounced back into play. The ref waved play on, and after that, the stanchions were changed to how they are now.

Probably best of both worlds for some Thistle fans. They get to go radge at the ineptitude of the referee and assistants as well as their own team`s inadequacies.
Not that this is unique trait of Partick fans - it`s just their chance this time around.

The other bizarre part of that decision was the handball. When the ball came into the box after hitting the stanchion a defender caught it as he knew it was a goal. He then handed it to his keeper and played on. Not only was it deemed not a goal a penalty wasn’t given either.

Other issues aside - I`m unclear about the perceived relevance of the deflection aspect of the disallowed goal that Brian Graham "scored" in the second half.
If he was onside throughout the move (which appeared so) why would it matter who touched it before he netted ?

If the deflection came off a Partick player, and the linesman thought he was offside only after the deflection but not the original shot (I don`t think he was in any event), then he might not have flagged until the referee said to him "was he still onside after the deflection?" Other possibility is that the lineman didn`t think Graham touched it but the referee clarified that he did.

I don’t get to see the Pars that often but that was what struck me in this game also. Add Fagan Walcott at full time saying how much he’s enjoying his stint for the Pars, how delighted they were for Benjamin getting his goal after taking a lot of stick in previous games (he’s 18 playing his first senior games, scoring his first senior goal) Matty Todd holding up Benjamin’s arm to the fans at full time. McPake builds a good camaraderie amongst the players that will stand them in good stead between now and the season end.
