 Transfer Rumours across the Leagues
Topic Originator: Berry
Date:   Tue 13 May 14:39

Opening a thread for all things transfers as we go into the close season.

Pars start by securing 16yo Lucas Fyfe on a 2-year apprenticeship.

Montrose snap up Craig Wighton on a 2-year deal.

Forfar have secured Lewis Martin on a 2-year deal.

Not a rumour but a couple of interesting names on the list of players released by the Rovers, namely Dabrowski and Euan Murray.

Aidan Connolly is also leaving and a few are `in discussions` according to the Courier -

`There remains uncertainty over the futures of a number of others, with vice-captain Ross Matthews, striker Jamie Gullan, defenders Liam Dick and Callum Hannah, and back-up keeper Andy McNeil in discussions over fresh terms.`

Would have considered Dabrowski if he wasn’t such a bell-end.

No mate, on his day, he is a great shot-stopper, saved the wee team against us on numerous occasions.

Dabrowski is bang average. Half decent shot stopper, doesn`t command his box and awful with his feet. And he's an absolute bell end.

Better off with Mehmet.

Dabrowski is basically just a more flamboyant version of Mehmet. Both capable of great saves but are undone all too often by howlers. Not to mention Dabrowski`s distribution is some of the worst I`ve ever seen at this level of football.

Just to be clear, I wasn`t advocating that we sign Dabrowski as I agree he is similar to Mehmet just a bit more eccentric.
Ikpeazu would be amazing if it were ever to happen.
I think Aberdeen has a decent player, on paper, in Milanovic.

Cammy does that mean Baltic have advised him he’s being released? Thought they could just offer him a deal to mean compensation would then be due if we wanted to sign him?

Stuart Armstrong been released by Sheffield Wednesday despite playing 11 times from late January, not long turned 33, checked and he wasn’t a player Lennon had in his time at Celtic. Assume he’ll probably cost too much and a year or 2 too early for the drop to us. Would be a bit of a statement signing and add valuable experience to a younger squad.

I`d assume so, Berkey.
Heard this a few days before the club put out the list of departures. Maybe we spoke to him early just so he had something lined up in case Celtic did come in. Can’t see Celtic going for him purely for the development fee, it would be pennies to them anyway.

I was just thinking would James forest be a good signing if he quits celtic at the end of the season. Mr. Lennon must have worked with him at celtic. Don`t know his age though but I`m sure we could get 1 or 2 seasons out of him? If he wanted to come.

Theres not a chance either of these 2 will be at the Pars next season. What we do need clarity on for now is the manager and the other players waiting to sign deals. Rumours on Hibs sites that they are making a move for JCM so be good to get him wrapped up on a deal of some sort pronto. Even if it is just his extension to mean wed require being paid off for him.

Every post I make is my own. But when every time you try to make a point, all people care about is your grammar instead of what you`re actually saying, you start running it through a checker just to keep the grammar police from having another meltdown. I’m watching the St Johnstone - Dundee game and Scott Tiffoney is so direct on the left wing. I know he’s out of contract in the summer and hopefully we are in conversations with his representatives as he would be a top signing.

I heard Dundee have offered him a deal but he’s weighing up his options.

I wouldn`t have thought so, DJAS, but every man has his price. Remember some of the signings Therangers made when they started out in League 2? Kevin Kyle was called up by Ally McCoist and asked if he`d like to jump on the Ibrox bandwagon. According to the man himself, he asked for double the amount he would have bitten McCoist`s hand off for and was told, "You`ve got it." 😃

How’s it “brain dead” for a fan to suggest a Scottish player who is nearing the end of his career and moving down the leagues in England might be tempted to come to us?

Takes all sorts but that’s a weird way to have a go at someone for suggesting a player. Would I have been brain dead if I suggested wanyama in January last season?

Not your finest hour Andrew. No one knows the level of player we are looking at for next season. Lennon won’t be on a £1k a week that’s for sure.

I wouldn`t have thought Wanyama or even Lennon for that matter were realistic yet it happened so anything is possible.

If we are throwing silly about for wages who knows. Armstrong isn`t your stereotypical footballer, sure he was a late developer to FT football and is also a qualified lawyer so he may fancy a move back near home to see out his playing days. Wishful thinking of course.

I think we`ll see a few on the north side of 30 years old, possibly ones who Lennon has experience with and/or ones he brought through at Celtic who didn`t quite make the final step into the first team.

Outwith that Joe Shaughnessy is out of contract at Dundee, would fit the bill nicely for an experienced centre back especially if we play a back three. Ditto Ross Docherty from Dundee United for centre midfield although i'm not sure if he still has another year left to run.

I see St Johnstone released 16 players this week including Nicky Clark, Benji Kimpioka and Stevie May. Andre Raymond has also been made available for transfer.

I wouldn`t consider bringing Raymond back. Despite Ngwenya missing 10 games last season, I believe there are better and more consistent alternatives available who can genuinely challenge for the starting spot. The release of Comrie seemed to point towards a system using wing-backs, we will need 4 (2 each side ) first team quality players to contribute over the course of the season due to the physical demands it requires.

With that in mind, I wouldn’t be keen on signing any players released by St Johnstone. For example, Clark only featured for 25 minutes across their bottom-six fixtures and wasn’t even in the squad for their 2-0 defeat to Dundee. If st Johnstone thinks they are not worth keeping for the championship, I can`t see us going anywhere near them.

With the proper quality of service Nicky Clark would have a field day in the Championship.

Clarke`s had 2 season stints in the Championship with us, Rangers and Dundee Utd, plus a 1 year spell at QOS at this level. 190 games, 54 goals and 25 assists – works out at 1.75 points per game, which isn’t bad on paper.

That said, last time he played in the Championship was with Dundee Utd in 19/20 – five years ago now. He’s 33 and clearly not fancied by St Johnstone to do a job at this level anymore. Or maybe they don`t see him being reliable.

We’ve already got Kane, who struggles with fitness when the workload ramps up. Do we really want to take another gamble up front? Clarke could maybe bring some experience to the squad, but I don’t think he would be worth the gamble. Feels like we need someone a bit more reliable. But he does know where the goal is I just don`t think we need another player who might struggle with the demands of a season.

Not sure I would take clark, another like moult who is getting towards the wrong end of career and you need decent mobility at the top of this league.

Just to say though that st Johnstone are cutting costs, don’t assume that they didn’t think Clark couldn’t do a job for them in the championship as they released him, it could just be they can’t afford what he was looking for or have other strikers signed up for next season.

If Clark ended up at a half decent championship team he would score a few goals in the league next season for sure.

Lenny’s son released by st mirren, never played for them and spent the majority of the 2 years on loan in league 2 but given the wanyama signing I wouldn’t be suprised if he joined his dad here.

I know it’s all about levels but I saw him at Dumbarton a few times and thought he looked a player. I’m sure he’ll stay in the game and at 19, he might be a handy player to have in a Development Squad somewhere

Yes.

My comment was aimed at those who say a championship striker needs to be mobile.

It was another dig at me no doubt.

I suppose if we had a better team the striker doesn’t need to as mobile, it depends on how Lenny wants to play. Thistle play to get the ball into him at first opportunity and he doesn’t have to track back as much etc, it’s worked for him but as team it only gets you so far. Figure we’re aiming a bit higher than distant 4th next season?

Ah, I agree the "mobility" claim wasn`t the word I think he was looking for. Now if he had said reliable I`d agree with that considering how much games kane misses.

I saw that Archie Stevens has been released from Rangers. It will be interesting to see where he ends up. One of those players I actually thought he showed promise on his first appearance for us. He wasn’t afraid to take on his man and looked like he had that bit of spark about him. Thought if we’d worked on his delivery, he could’ve turned into a real asset out wide. And to bring it back to your earlier point, had the looks of someone who could really benefit a striker who isn`t the most mobile as maybe younger models.

But after that game he just seemed to go backwards. Stopped being direct, always playing it safe ,laying it off to the Comrie or into midfield instead of driving forward. Hard to know if that was the instructions from the dugout or a lack of confidence.

Maybe he just didn`t fit our system, maybe low on confidence at a club who struggled . Time will tell, I suppose.

Merely suggesting you don`t need to be "mobile" to be a successful striker in the Championship.

Are you seriously saying that if the top scorer in the league was available, you wouldn’t sign him?

After the absolute dross we’ve served up over the last few seasons, I’d bite your hand off for a "distant 4th" right now. We were literally the lowest scoring team in Scotland last season. Signing anyone who can stick the ball in the net is a welcome upgrade at this point.

That said, It`s not just about finishing. We also need players who can create chances. Maybe I’m missing your point here, Berkey, but I don’t get your logic.

Interested quote from article and why we may not go for Docherty, “Central midfield is not an area of priority for Dunfermline…”

I beg to differ.

I worked beside a family member of Docherty, so you obviously watch him closely over the years, for some office chat, and I must admit that he’s someone I really like and would love to see here.

He had injury and off field issues last season, which hampered his time at united, but I believe that’s all behind him now, so someone is getting a cracking player for this level.

Totally agree. We only just scraped by without ever looking convincing, and let’s be honest, there weren’t any real standout performers over the season ( Tobi maybe the only exception who is no longer here). Every single position should be up for grabs going into the new campaign. Whether it`s fresh signings or current players finally pulling their socks up, there’s a huge opportunity for someone to stake their claim.

If I was a new signing coming in, I’d fancy my chances of starting pretty much anywhere on the pitch. The competition for places could be a good thing for us as a squad. Kane’s maybe the only one who gets a pass when fit. If someone comes in, stays fit, and starts hitting the net regularly, it’d be hard to justify benching them just for the sake of kane.

Big summer ahead—no room for passengers.

If we’re looking for experience, there are a few players with knowledge of the Scottish game (and who may be looking to return) whose contracts are up and are being released down south: Sam Cosgrove (Barnsley), Jamie Walker (Bradford City), Dylan McGeouch, Paul Dummet and Josh Vela (all Carlisle), Conor McAleny (Salford) and Alex MacDonald (Rotherham). Regan Hendry (Tranmere) is also out of contract but the Wirral club is “in negotiations” with him. Given the team’s fortunes when he was in the team compared to when he was injured, they would be foolish to let him leave…

Livingston I think would be top end of bottom 6, comfortably in mid table.

History should tell you size of support means nothing as far as ‘success’ in the Premiership
Hamilton and Livvy enjoyed many years there with abysmal support and ST Johnstone another.
Hibs, Hearts, Dundee Utd etc have all been relegated with sizeable fanbases.

Martindale said after the game that four of the guys that played last night had clauses in their contract that would have led to them being released if Livingston had failed to get promotion but wouldn`t mention names.

Wish we had more players of his size or above. We`ve been a very small team overall for years.

For me, these days, you need a team that`s about 75% big, powerful and athletic, with the other 25% being technical and creative. Maybe 60/40. Just my opinion.

We`ve always had too many players where a tea lady could shoulder charge them into the advertising boards.

Morgan Boyes signs for StJohnstone from Morton.

maybe their plan is sign up as many other championship players so the championship sides have to look elsewhere

Boyes being a left sided centre half, can play at left back if need be could have been useful on those aspects.

maybe Lennon if he stays or the analytics will find a better option for us.

Good chance it`s Graham. Obviously played for NL at Hibs. It`s an offer to move into coaching. NL will want attacking football. Graham is obviously passionate about the game as still performing well at championship level. A good pro and role model for tge younger guys and will chip in with goals.

Don`t think we should forget how Chris Hamilton filled in at the back during the bad injury spells. Not sure his best position is midfield, but more suited in the back 3. I hope he goes on to gave a good season

I’ve said it often but I’ll say it again. Every team needs a good balance.
Lennon wasn’t known for his passing ability. He won the ball and played a simple pass. Was judged as being a hot head too, but was he not Martin O’Neill’s first signing for Celtic ?

I think Lennon sees much of himself in Hamilton ?

Agree.

Playing in a back three he did well and surprisingly, given his height, was rarely beaten in the air. I also think he`d be a decent option as a right back in a back four.

Surely not a big build up for Hamilton signing a new deal.

Personally thought he should`ve been released. Being aggressive and a Pars fan goes a long way clearly. Not a footballer in my eyes.

Would be happy with Brian Graham on a 1 year deal though.

Not against Hamilton staying, quite versatile in what might be a smaller squad and not the highest wages. I would be worried about our ambitions for top 3 if he’s regularly getting a game in middle of the park though.

Kane (young when Kane is injured) and Graham up front is an interesting one, if we get some decent wingers and midfielders in could be decent. Better than what we’re watched in the last few years anyway.

Hamilton is good enough to have been a regular in an Arbroath team that just missed out on promotion from the Championship and has a strong enough character to have been appointed team vice-captain at a young age. He is worth a place in the team squad and it will be up to him to warrant a regular team place.we

He’s no going to be a starter and lost his place to Clay for the end of the season.

Spot on, DA. Just posted something similar on the other thread about Hamilton. He’s a solid squad option and gives Lennon a bit of flexibility, can cover a few different roles which is always useful. At the end of the day, we need a squad, not just a starting XI. Good to have players like him around who can do a job when needed.

c'mon the pars

current squad:
Mehmet, Bray, Fisher, Benedictus, S.Young, Ngwenya, Hamilton, Otoo, Ritchie-Hosler, Todd, A.Tod, Kane, C.Young, T.Sutherland.

there are different question marks over every player there but that squad is not good enough never mind a starting XI from it, re-signing Cooper, Wanyama and Oakley-Boothe will not improve it either.

11 Bookings in 31 appearances would suggest this.

Football is all about opinions and this is a forum so I guess there will always be punters that disagree.

I just look at the fact under Lennon he started 2 out of 7 and lost his place to Craig Clay (now released) who never even made match squads under McPake or Tidser.

Happy to be proved wrong of course

I suppose it depends on circumstances. No doubt NL would put a team on the park he thought was best suited to winning the game. It depends on your opponents and what system you want to play. NL wants to play attacking football o I assume his recruitment may determine how he selects the team from the squad he puts together. NL has said you need to have the right attitude, and there were things he observed in his time when he arrived he was not happy with. The right attitude is what makes good players go on to be great players. At 23 CH best games are ahead of him. Personally, I see him in a back 3 or 4. He`s no slouch, and if you are playing attacking football, you need people at the back who can cover ground and defend.

Ngwenya is still under contract, so why would he not be here next season? We need another LW back for sure but Ngwenya has been ok most games. Unlucky with a couple of niggly injuries but he can do a job. Still only 22 a good athlete and a decent player imo..

What an opportunity we missed in 2014.

I thought Ngwenya got better and better throughout the season. Maybe a little injury prone, hopefully benefit from a new training regime under NL.

Because I think he`s not good enough. Offers nothing going forward and not great defensively.

If we are looking for a promotion push, he aint the answer.

I’m not totally convinced that NL fancied Ngwema. Maybe his ragged selection is down to injury rather than opinion, but with NL playing Raymond/Chalmers (who he later released) in front of him more times that not, I’m not sure he’s someone that NL would choose to have as part of his squad.

When Tidser had his rant about players attitude, after the Hamilton game, he seemed to disappear for a little while, but was never mentioned as being injured. Is he one of the players that Tidser singled out?? We’ll never know, but time will tell if NL rated him.

There is the possibility of a mutual termination. Manager tells a player he isn`t part of his plans and said player rather than sit in the stands wants to further his career.
I don`t particularly see it with the afore-mentioned but who knows what turnover of players we might see this time round.

Ngwenya will be absolutely fine, he`s a young guy that did a decent job last season, just struggled for fitness. Of course you`d look to improve the position, but no need to get rid of him under contract whilst having him as an option

Arrrrrggggghhhhh.

Wee eck has pretty much said what I`m about to, but we don`t have a bottomless bag of moon gems that would make it possible to release contracted players fully paid up and then bring in EVEN MORE PLAYERS to replace them, as well as bringing in the already mentioned new players. It`s madness to even think that. Mehmet WILL be our back-up keeper next season, and the rest that are under contract will remain. UNLESS another club wants them, even if on loan.

Please 🙏 🙏 🙏, get real.

It really does speak volumes about how bad recruitment has been when you look at some of the players still on the books. I’d be delighted to see of them moved on with a partial pay up if it costs us significantly less than the full cost of the remaining year on the deal. I’d actually keep Ngwenya in the squad although I’d like us to sign someone to play ahead of him.

Aye, it’s a tough one. From what I’ve heard, Tidser approached MOH about a mutual termination and he wasn’t up for it. A bit of a Rodwell situation really, like you saw on Sunderland `Til I Die. Unless a player’s got something lined up elsewhere, most are just gonna sit tight, pick up the wage, and wait it out. That’s the gamble you take when handing out longer term deals. Easy to say now with hindsight, of course.

Kieran’s a decent squad option, no doubt, but if we’re serious about kicking on, I’d like to see us bring in someone better. Especially if Lennon’s sticking with the wing-back system, not re-signing Comrie seems to hint at that. Getting someone who suits that role would be a smart move.

I’ve got a feeling we’ll see a new face in the door early next week. Still loads of time before the Betfred starts to get some new faces in.

Some of them might be willing to try and find another club and take a partial pay up if the “you won’t be playing much” conversation is had. Others will be happy to just take the wage and play in the reserves.

We won`t be paying players off surely, no clubs are desperate to sign unwanted players from a team that`s been fighting relegation for 2 years, especially since this week ...there`s hundreds, if not thousands of free agents available.

Ngwenya is pretty decent anyway, the only in contract players who might be gone would be for breach of contract.

Mehmet will be our back up, before he signed for us he played almost no adult football (25 games in 11 seasons for a variety of clubs) so there is zero interest, he will be 33 this year also. He`s going nowhere.

Don’t think anyone’s accepting low standards, people are just being realistic. If we pay players off, that’s money gone, and it means less to spend on actually improving the squad.

Mehmet played 6 league games last season and shipped 9 goals. Not exactly screaming No.1 material but we are lumbered.with him because of mcpake.

Some folk need to temper what they’re expecting from this new owner. Yeah, the board’s got money, but we’re not going to chuck millions around just for the sake of it.

The reports I’ve heard is Lennon is on £10k a week…….and thats come from two separate sources with no connection to each other. IF we are paying that amount of money in this division, then we are already throwing money at it.

I guess the rest of the transfer window will either confirm or deny if these guys are willing to chuck millions at it or not.

Absolutely no chance Lennon’s on anywhere near 10k a week, that’s £520k a year. Worth keeping in mind the whole squad was on £832k last season (source: salarysport.com).

For a bit of context, David Gray is reportedly pulling in around £275k at Hibs. Lennon might be getting similar, maybe, but definitely not 10k a week.

Reckon he’s probably on a modest deal compared to other championship managers, but nowhere near those kinds of numbers.

If Gray at Hibs is on £275k then I actually don`t think £500k for Lennon is miles away from his `market value` - he`s more experienced, higher profile, and, frankly, we probably need to be paying him to drop down to this level.

It`s not beyond the realms of possibility that we are paying him that much, however most likely it`s a relatively low base package with significant performance related bonuses that works out at £10k a week if the performance criteria are met.

That`s the weekly figures i heard as well, albeit from the short term deal last season with a hefty bonus on top for keeping us up, to the tune of six figures.

Remember at the time he said the owner was a `very persuasive man` or words to that effect when talking about convincing him to join.

Could be that Lennon reckons he`ll get Tobi in. If he continues to improve, we might get a decent fee for him, whereas Bain has no sell on value and will demand a bigger salary because of his greater experience.

Wouldn`t be a "marquee signing " though, would he? 🤔

Another couple of SJ players seem to be on the move, Drey Wright to Dundee and Livi are interested in Graham Carey apparently.

Fraser Murray seems to be available from Killie. He had a decent loan spell with us during `Covid` and is the sort of wide attacking player we could do with. He may have options to stay in the Premiership though.

I’d actually love to see him come in (same goes for Callumn Morrison). Not sure The Wee Team would let him join us, so it feels unlikely — but he’s exactly the type of player we need, and I’d be delighted if it happened.

Sure, a few of our supporters might kick up a fuss — a small minority, no doubt — but if he performs, that won’t last long. I’m old enough to remember Andy Smith getting pelters on his debut, and he ended up a bit of a legend from the Paton era.

Easton lives in the Duloch area, signing for The Pars would be good for him. The Wee Team are losing players and like us are struggling for Goalkeepers, I hope they find it difficult to get a challenging team together.

Kevin O`Hara mocked Dean Shiels about losing an eye. He shouldn`t have been anywhere near our club and he was accepted. Easton would have no problem here. Not going to happen anyway.

Some fans weren’t happy when we signed O’Hara. That section loves to give it out, especially to players "taking up the rear", but suddenly get a bit precious when a player scores and gives a bit back. I remember Scott McDonald doing the same ran backwards past them, stuck the bum out after scoring against us, and folk were raging then too.

Personally wouldn’t mind Easton. Quality player and proven at this level. If some can’t handle him giving it back to the young team now and then, that says more about them than him.

That said, I can’t see him coming here. Looks settled at Raith, I`m pretty sure his sons are ball boys there. he might be involved in the Joe Cardle Academy in some capacity too?

Easton lived in Duloch even while playing for Airdrie and I don`t think he coaches with JC since he moved to Raith. I wouldn`t read much into it. He`s 31 and settled there and I imagine they`d want to keep him there as he`s probably their best player.

Easton has done pretty well. I`m not taking the pee pee here, but take a few hours with a patch over one eye. You`ll understand how different it makes things. It messes with your depth perception and other aspects of vision. I`m guessing your brain just naturally adapts over time.

Like TAFKA said, you were maybe meaning Shiels, Kozma. 🤔

England goalkeeper, Gordon Banks, lost an eye in an RTA and made a brief comeback. It wasn`t a success for the very reasons you outline. He missed almost every cross he went for and ended up retiring soon afterwards.

You’re probably right, I hope so. I just thought in the centre of a back 3, he was ideal and would be the perfect mould of a player NL would have liked and a candidate for captain.

No point in complaining though, not going to happen so let see who we do get 👍🏻

After the last few years I`d settle for being up there and around the play offs, it would be a vast improvement imo and signs of progress, promotion and building a team of the type of signings to achieve that is a quite a challenge in one year.

For me it’s underwhelming because I don’t rate him, think he spends more time trying to get booked.

He’s no going to be a starter and lost his place to Clay for the end of the season.

He gets booked as he plays with passion and commitment, although he was rash and stupid in bookings from the last few games of the season.
Why you don`t rate him is baffling to me, though, as he is a commited, passionate player with skill. What`s not to like in that?

For someone who is rated by many he does not seem to stay anywhere beyond first contract. Maybe managers see something they don’t like or doesn’t live up to promise or he’s possibly disruptive in dressing room . Could just be he fancies new challenge every so often .

Some folk seem to think if the team`s had a poor season you should just get rid of everybody. It`s like the old view that anyone who was in the squad that got us relegated should have gone, regardless of how they performed in the promotion season.

The whole point about changing manager is that he casts a fresh eye over the squad and maybe sees players he thinks may not have realised their potential under previous managers. This may be because they were played out of position or in a formation that didn`t suit them. In some ways giving a player a new contract is possibly just like signing a new player.

Quality as in a final pass to a team mate would be good.

He’s been given a contract as he “knows the club”, we obviously have different opinions and don’t agree but hey isn’t that what a forum is all about.

You obviously rate Hamilton and feel he makes a difference to the team and I don’t.

Last year I said I’d be happy with 5th and took Pelters (before the Forfar game mind you, a lot of folk changed their tune after that 😂) not being funny but I want us to be in the hunt for playoffs this year but again, improvement and 5th would do. If the boys want to surprise everyone and chase a league title, I’d bite your hand off but from where we were that’s to that is to much to ask.

No way he`s getting a top flight deal. Morton or Ayr would be my bet.

All players are mercenary nowadays but some seem more mercenary than others. There are question marks around how he left us and then QP and now he is leaving Derry after 6 months. There`s no doubt he`s an asset at Championship level but he`d be a big risk I think.

Thomas didn`t get the chance to chuck it because he was stood down against QP. The team as a whole regressed at the business end of the 21/22 season, having looked to be turning the corner at the end of March.

He can, however, be dismissed as any sort of option given that he was part of a squad which once got relegated - and that means he`s proven to be not good enough at this level - and never will be.

Dom Thomas is exactly the kind of player we need. Exciting to watch and can create chances out of nothing. I’m sick of watching boring football. Let’s sign some tricky wingers and get at teams.

He can, however, be dismissed as any sort of option given that he was part of a squad which once got relegated - and that means he`s proven to be not good enough at this level - and never will be.

Sound logic that.

Going younger as a squad, so is he really the type of guy we want in the dressing room? His attitude always seemed a bit suspect. One of those players that if it’s not going his way, you can just picture him sulking about, bringing the mood down.

And as DA rightly pointed out, let’s not forget how he left the last time. Didn’t exactly cover himself in glory, did he?

No doubt he’s a good player on his day, but how often is that day? Starting to feel like the cons outweigh the pros for me. Right now, we’re trying to build something fresh, hungry, and happy to be part of a squad. I`m not sure he fits that mould anymore.

Would rather give the minutes to someone who actually wants to graft and grow here.

Yeah let`s just conveniently forget how the guy totally chucked it after signing a PCA with the team who relegated us.

No way he`s getting a top flight deal. Morton or Ayr would be my bet.

Dom Thomas by all accounts in an absolute walloper. Even for all their faults, we’ve had quite a tight dressing room so I don’t think introducing a known walking fanny pack would be the best idea. Let him go make an bottom of it somewhere else

Dom Thomas coming back would only be welcomed if he has had a major attitude shift. Obviously wouldn’t know that until into the season.

Boyce - Id avoid as he is more injury prone than Kane. 106 league games in 5 years would be a worry, plus he is 34.

I’ve no idea if either signing is actually on the cards, but both would be fantastic additions for the club. We all know how effective Callumn Morrison can be at this level, a proper game-changer and a goal threat. F**kirk definitely seemed to struggle after selling him in January; their results certainly dipped not long after.

Liam Boyce has had his injury troubles at Hearts, but he’s still a proven goalscorer and a real handful up top, a proper battering ram of a forward.

I imagine both players are still under contract, having only joined Linfield and Derry in January, but if there’s even a chance of bringing them in, they’d be cracking signings.

Boyce on a pay as you play deal would make sense. Class act when fit, no doubt about it, but keeping him fit is the big “if”. Can’t see him coming in on peanuts either, even on a reduced deal. We`ve already got Kane who`s made of glass how many times have we said “once he`s back fit…” only for him to break down again? Having two strikers on decent wages, both with injury red flags? Seems a bit of a gamble. Wouldn’t want to be relying on both week in, week out. That being said, when Boyce is on it, he’s a handful. He has a good touch, brings others into play, knows where the net is very similar to kane. Could be a shrewd bit of business if we manage his minutes properly.

As for Morrison no doubt he is a talented lad but similar to someone thomas in that he always seems to come with a bit of baggage. Think if the dressing room is solid enough to keep him in check, he could be a game changer and will improve the current squad 10 fold.

Feels like a lot of high risk, high reward signings being talked about. Again every signing is a risk but some are definitely more than others.

Agree with that, Berkey. Dom, on his game, can add that bit of quality or creativity that can make the difference in a tight game.

I also agree that a player`s relationship with his manager is vitally important. I believe Dom got on reasonably well with Peter Grant. Not so much with Mr Hughes, and he wasn`t alone.... 🙄

I always thought Dom Thomas played better when the TV cameras were there. In his first season, he scored one goal against Hearts and that was it.He scored 5 goals in 46 league appearances in total for us.
I remember he had a few assists from corners for Euan Murray at one point but I can`t remember too many from open play for a player of his ability.
I always felt he went into hiding if he didn`t fancy it. One game away at Cappielow sticks in mind, it was 0-0 and everyone was honking but he hardly had a touch before he was hooked and put out of his misery. He started 36 league games for us and I reckon he was subbed off in more than half of them, very rarely did he play 90 minutes?
All of that being said he is an upgrade on anything we have seen in recent seasons.

Aren`t we obsessed with stats nowadays with concentration on goals and assists, and clean sheets for defenders and goalies? How do you assess the impact of a player who is a bit unpredictable, raises expectations when he gets the ball and drags opponents out of position with his movement and passing, say?

This isn`t meant to be an unqualified approval of Dom Thomas who would bring a bit of `baggage` with him if he signed but I do think there is still a place in football, certainly in the Scottish Championship, for players like him.

A piece in the Belfast Telegraph about Want`s departure, from two days ago:

Scottish defender Shaun Want has left Larne after three successful seasons at Inver Park.
The 28 year-old departure is a hammer blow for the Invermen, as Want is widely regarded as one of the Irish League’s best centre backs.

In a statement, Larne said: ‘We can confirm that Shaun Want will depart the club upon the expiry of his contract this month, returning to Scotland for family reasons.

“The club respects Shaun’s decision to put family and wishes him the best of luck at his next club.”

Want joined Larne from Hamilton Academicals, where he spent seven season making 47 appearances in the Scottish Premiership.

At Larne, Want won two Irish League winners’ medals and lifted the County Antrim Shield on two occasions. This season he helped the Invermen qualify for the Conference League thanks to a second placed finish in the Sports Direct Premiership.

Don’t think many apart from a few on here expected the club to just start chucking money around. We`ve put some funds into improving the pitch, minor adjustments to the astro with a few portacabins at Rosyth. Fair to say we’re spending more on the first team than we have in recent seasons, but I doubt Lennon’s been given a blank cheque.

From what he said in his last interview, it sounds like the plan is steady progress. Aim for top 4 this season, then kick on from there with a few required tweaks.

That said, it will cost us a bit more this time round, just because the first team squad really needed strengthening and we paid off a fair bit of the squad from last season.

They’re doing what many thought we would do

Totally agree, Cammy. I think the new owners and club board have done really well with the investment so far. That said, there were definitely a fair few supporters — on here, P&B, and across social media — who seemed to expect the club to go all-in and bankroll “well kent faces” like GMS, Gallagher, etc.

Hey, it still might happen (I’ve said a few times that I thought Gallagher would’ve been a great addition), but personally, I’d much rather see us take the progress route than build a squad full of 33 year olds.

I think the plan is development. It will put the analytics to best use. Sensible investment and small steps. There is little value in bringing in players in their mid 30`s unless they bring serious experience, still injury free and able to contribute on the park over the season.

If the plan is just for development and mid table/try for 4th next season then it half makes you wonder why push the boat so much for Lenny?

Seen quite a few you would have been keen to see at East end sign for rivals and other clubs, already the pool of Scottish free transfers with the quality to take us further is diminishing.

Hopefully a few signings with the ability to make a difference are announced this week.

Out of the clubs who were already in the league there’s not been much in the way of signings so no really missed out on anyone.

St J have signed 3 players who were in this league last season and imo are not that great.

Ross County have signed experience yeah Gallagher would have been nice but our defence was good towards the end of the season and as for GMS he will get booted of the ball most weeks and has been injury prone last few seasons.

Patience is the key it will come good

We did finish 7th last season. I don’t think we can be turning our noses up at teams signing players who finished at a higher level than us so far.

Now, if we go out and sign higher level players then great, but currently we have signed a League One midfielder and thats it so far.

Time will tell if patience is the key or not.

Getting Lenny in was a massive statement from the club. Let’s be honest, we landed the best available manager to develop the young talent we`re clearly building around. And he’s got the CV to back it up. Look at what he did with Frimpong. Perfect example of how he can improve a player and help them kick on to the next level.

As for who we’ve “missed out” on?I’m not seeing it. Be interested to hear who you think we should have gone for. From what I’ve seen, Livingston have recruited really poorly given they are now in the top league. Can’t say any of the Championship sides have made standout signings either, unless I’ve missed something?

I’m sure we’ll see some new faces in one the next couple of weeks.

At the moment we are weaker than last season given we let so many go and have only brought in 2 (Bray and Gilmour) more additions are obviously required and I’m sure behind the scenes we’re close to a few getting over the line.

Ayr United are set to bring Shaun Want back from Ireland.

The experienced defender has just turned down a new deal at Larne.

Want has been in Northern Ireland for three years and wanted to be closer to home for family reasons.

Scott Brown is set to fight off competition from several other Championship rivals to sign him.

He is expected to sign a two year deal at Somerset Park, subject to a medical.

Want came through the ranks at Hamilton Accies before he went out and had title success and tasted European football with Larne.

To be fair we are going to be linked with loads of players. We need by my reckoning maybe six more….we are certainly taking our time though, hopefully the ones we bring in will get the fans excited and hopefully at least four are signed before the Kelty game…

What an opportunity we missed in 2014.

If that’s the case and we were interested, then more fool him. Playing at Somerset or playing at EEP… being a regular under Scott Brown or a regular under Neil Lennon… I know where I’d rather be.

He might think he’s got a better chance of promotion with Ayr, but if so, that’s a pretty short-sighted call.

It is…..and I am incredibly biased as well 😂

My comment was a bit tongue in cheek, a million factors could influence him towards signing for Ayr.

There could be a variety of personal reasons including travel, accommodation etc.

It seems a common statement from the press regarding competition from other championship clubs. Sounds like cut and paste from other articles to me.

If they are based in the west then Ayr is obviously better for him at the end of the day.

The experienced play-maker’s availability has alerted rival clubs in the Championship but it is understood Caley Thistle have held talks with the former Motherwell and Ayr United player and made clear their interest.

3 coaches have followed Ange Postecoglu out the door at Spurs, including Nick Montgomery who had a short spell in charge of Hibs.

Lugs from Kdy....soon

A Scottish football transfer account on X has tweeted that we have bid £80k for Easton, albeit it’s been rejected.

Would take this with a pinch of salt as only has 20 followers 🤣

If you look at the other tweets as well and how far off they were….i wouldn’t take seriously.

So Dapo didn`t manage to play a game in Bulgaria due to visa problems (according to the Courier)?

Craig Clay is a great signing for Kelty. If he wanted to stay up here ( and he obviously does) then I would have thought Airdrie, Morton type level was appropriate. TBH I would have been happy if we retained him.

Good signing for Kelty on his latter season form.

All the best to McCann and Dapo for the future too.

That`s a cracking signing for Kelly, was expecting another Championship team to go for him

Good luck to McCann, plenty to thank him for, but good for both him and the club, he needs a new start, i hope he has something left Ned up, sounds like he might.

Dapo needs some luck, and a run at it, probably needs to step down a level to get that.

Good luck to both, just never worked out for Dapo and I had high hopes for him when he signed. As for Lewis, as has been said before, he just never kicked on and despite the effort was simply frustrating. It’s the right thing to do.

Dapo isn`t a surprise. He may need to step down a level for a season to get back into shape.

I think Lewis McCann was a bit unfortunate in a struggling team. I would tend to agree it`s time for him to move on. Wouldn`t be surprised if Livngston see him as an option. But he may struggle a bit at that level. Be interesting to see where he ends up

Right decision to let Dapo and McCann leave, we have to move on as a club if we want to go up the way.

For all I slated him it will be interesting to see where McCann ends up, his career pretty much stalled for the last 4 years so defo needed to move on.

Livi have signed Rudden and May, they also have Muirhead and Yenge and Montano. I`d be surprised if they go for McCann too.

Good luck to the boy, wherever he goes

I’d be surprised if Livi signed McCann. I know some folk are pointing to the fact that DM was complimentary about him before we played them at EEP — but to be fair, that could’ve just been for the cameras.

I’m hoping that we start getting some players in the door sooner rather than later. The fact the lads are back in today, I’m hopeful we will have some announcements.

At the moment we have a squad that is far worse than the one that finished the season.

Wonder if we couldn’t compete with Falkirk on wages or he just fancied less of a commute etc for what is presumably a 1 year deal.

I assume if we’re using the analytics then nothing will have changed in the last few weeks as no one is playing so hopefully in loads of negotiations for our targets.

It`s simpler than that. He just fancies a shot at top flight football. Unless I`m mistaken he`s never played higher than the 2nd tier.

I would have liked to have seen Graham at EEP, but whilst different from Kane in terms of height, etc, there would have been fans raging at their combined age.
I trust Lennon to get this right, but striker reinforcements will be key.
I`m excited to see what occurs over the next few weeks.

He still had a year left on his contract at Partick , obviously poacher turned gamekeeper scenario he was never going back. I think he`ll do fine at Falkirk with their style of play and amount of crosses they get into the box.
