The game was a Scottish League match and was a significant event in Scottish football history, leading to chaotic crowd scenes as fans attempted to gain entry. Fans scaled stand roofs and floodlight pylons to get in.

The official match attendance was given as 27,816 but an estimated 50,000 Celtic supporters travelled to the ground, some of whom watched from the roof of stands and floodlight pylons, whilst half were locked outside. ( Link to https://thecelticstar.com )
