Dunfermline Athletic 2 Brechin City 1
Mon, 31st Mar 2014
Dunfermline finally clinched the play-off spot that had looked theirs for long enough, although it was another unconvincing performance. After a goal-less first half Shankland fired the Pars ahead early in the second period, only for Robert Thomson to equalise. With time running out, Allan Smith’s run into the box prompted a rash challenge and Millen kept his nerve to score from the resultant spot-kick.

The Pars continue to limp towards the finishing line with an insipid performance in the latest Fife Derby. There was to be no last minute winner this time against Stenhousemuir. In fact, there was no winner at all and indeed no goals whatsoever as East End Park witnessed its first scoreless draw of the season. The Pars dominated possession but after missing a couple of early chances struggled to create clear-cut opportunities and were it not for a couple of last ditch challenges by Page and Grainger late on they could even have lost.

This was a tale of defensive mistakes and missed chances. An early (and obvious) penalty had allowd Grehan to give the home team the lead before a Page mistake let McKenna add a second. After the Pars had spent most of the second period in the opposition half, Stanraer ran up the park and scored a third. Grainger converted a late penalty to give some brief hope of a comeback, but Stranraer held on comfortably enough.

After a great win midweek against Arbroath the Pars travel once again to Stranraer who are third placed in the league. Another long journey for the fans, it`s not going to be an easy game - the home side were a match to the league leaders a few weeks ago - but hopefully all three points will mean happy faces homeward bound. Let`s get behind the team - Come on Ye Paaars!
