Premier Agreement between Dunfermline Rugby and Football Club
Date: Wednesday, 19th Nov 2003A ground-breaking agreement between Dunfermline Rugby Club and the Pars will see the Pars Superstore in the Kingsgate, Dunfermline, sell the rugby club’s newly designed rugby strips and, also, strips for its popular mini and midi sections.
The new rugby strip was designed with an input from the players themselves and both home and away versions have been well received by teams and visitors. Sales have already been made to expats in Australia and North America via the web.
The agreement between the clubs, both of which play in their respective Premier Leagues, is thought to be one of the first of its kind in Scotland and brings together two of Dunfermline’s foremost sporting institutions. Both clubs are dedicated to promoting sport with young people in the area and both clubs jerseys are well known in the town. The rugby club has around 200 youngsters from Primary 4 to the under 18s and the First XV has been promoted twice in the last three years. The Pars have an extensive youth programme with full teams from Under 11’s through to Under 19’s as well as an open Community Programme reaching around 500 children every week through fun coaching sessions.
Commenting on the arrangement Jim Leishman of the Pars said – “We’re delighted to be working alongside DRFC on this new joint venture and feel it makes perfect sense for the towns two premier teams to pool resources wherever we can.”
Speaking from McKane Park, the home of Dunfermline Rugby Club, its President Alistair Dodds added – “We are very pleased that we have been able to come to this arrangement between our two clubs which are very much fixtures in the town. This will enable us to meet demand for our strips that, in the past, has required the dedication of volunteers to manage. As rugby strips have become more and more fashionable demand has grown. Working with the Pars Superstore will enable customers to see and buy the strip at very competitive prices and far more easily than in the past. I am sure it will be popular.”
