PRESS RELEASE – TUESDAY, 25th MAY
Date: Tuesday, 25th May 2004STATEMENT FROM JOHN YORKSTON, CHAIRMAN DAFC
YESTERDAY MORNING I RECEIVED A NUMBER OF PHONE CALLS REGARDING THE SPECULATION ABOUT OUR MANAGER AND ASSISTANT MANAGER MOVING TO ABERDEEN FOOTBALL CLUB.
AT THAT TIME I HAD RECEIVED NO COMMUNICATION FROM ABERDEEN F.C. AND IT WAS NOT UNTIL 4PM YESTERDAY AFTERNOON THAT I RECEIVED A PHONE CALL FROM THEIR CHAIRMAN, STEWART MILNE.
STEWART ASKED FOR OUR PERMISSION TO SPEAK TO OUR MANAGER AND AT THIS POINT I HAD DISCUSSIONS WITH OUR BOARD MEMBERS WHO ALL CONFIRMED THAT THEY DID NOT WANT TO LOSE THE SERVICES OF JIMMY CALDERWOOD OR JIMMY NICHOLL.
THERE ARE OBLIGATIONS IN THE MANAGER’S AND ASSISTANT MANAGER’S CONTRACTS THAT STEWART AND I DISCUSSED AND IF THESE OBLIGATIONS ARE MET WE ARE, UNFORTUNATELY, OBLIGED TO ALLOW BOTH JIMMY CALDERWOOD AND JIMMY NICHOLL TO SPEAK TO ABERDEEN F.C.
WE HOPE TO HAVE THIS ISSUE RESOLVED AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE.
