Post Match Interviews

Author: Stuart Meldrum Date: Tuesday, 18th Jan 2005

Highlights from interviews given by Jim Moffat, Davie Hay, Jesper Christiansen, Andy Tod and Gary Dempsey after the Cup replay against East Fife.

Jim Moffat
Jim immediately admits that losing the early goal made it almost impossible for his side to get anything from the match. He gives praise to Dunfermline and realises that the SPL side’s class shone through on the artificial pitch, affectionately described as a ‘carpet’. Feels the second goal was a little harsh, as he believed a free kick should have been awarded in their favour but respects the referee’s decision, which ultimately killed the game. He picks out his goalkeeper as being outstanding along with the tremendous effort given by all of his players considering they are part time. Jim gives his best wishes to Dunfermline and hopes that the result can kick-start the teams season, the ex-par obviously still has a soft spot for Fifes big boy’s.

Davie Hay
Davie also puts a lot of significance on the early goal and explains that it levelled any anxiety that may have been running through the side. He gives credit to East Fife’s effort and ability to close out the Pars attacking moves, although following the second goal he felt they opened up a lot easier. He dismisses the thought that the prospect of playing Celtic spurred the team on and is adamant that his side would have tried just as hard regardless. Davie managed to give us the news that the club is looking to offer Barry Nicholson an extension to his contract following a lot of interest from Aberdeen. Hay stresses that it was Barry’s agent who suggested the idea making it seem all the more plausible but also that it is still in the pipeline and its up to the player himself. Also talk of a few problems with Hristov but its nothing that cant be ironed out by the club.

Jesper Christiansen
Jesper is a little annoyed that he didn’t manage to get on the score sheet but is pleased that he was involved in two of the teams three goals. He too tells us that Celtic wasn’t even in the minds of the players but that getting through was all that mattered; he describes the next round as “the gold at the end of the rainbow.” Jesper explains that he is trying to forget about his unhappy time with Kiddeminster and that although his games with the Pars have been hard he is happy to gaining his fitness back.

Andrew Todd
Having gained another goal the big man was very happy to get it so early to relieve some of the nerves that may well have hindered the Pars performance. Toddy is of the opinion that the team let themselves and the fans down first time round at Bayview and is happy to remedy that problem. Now the clubs top scorer Andy realises the incentive for the club to playing the champions and the revenue that will bring in for the club.

Gary Dempsey
Gary stresses how hard the East Fife players made it for Dunfermline to get any clear opportunities but also knows that the better side won in the end. Again it is said that the second goal killed the game and left the Pars very comfortable for the rest of the match. Although it took a few efforts for Gary to score he was always confident that his chance would come and also tells us that Hunt’s goal would give the striker a lot of confidence. Dempsey hopes that the confidence can carry through to a big game against Dundee United on Saturday and give them a boost to climb the table.
