Skerla stays at home
Author: Philip Meldrum Date: Monday, 24th Jun 2002Andrius Skerla has become the second of Jimmy Calderwood's first team regulars to miss out on the pre-season tour to New Zealand.
Last week DAFC.NET reported that Chris McGroarty would not be touring New Zealand due to a hamstring injury. However, Andrius Skerla has missed out for all together different reasons. The ex PSV Eindhoven defender is unable to join the 21 man squad due to a mix up with Visa requirements - the paperwork allowing him to travel was not completed in due time.
Pars boss Jimmy Calderwood was naturally frustrated, and he was left lamenting his luck -"It's a real shame that Andrius has to stay. It's disappointing for him, but he will be rejoining the squad when we play in Holland".
The root of the problem seemed to be that Skerla had been on holiday during the pre season, and the club had not been able to get in contact with him, which prevented the paperwork from being completed.
Skerla's omission from the squad could provide new signing Scott Walker with the perfect opportunity to cement his place in the team along side Scott Thomson at centre half. It seems likely now that Calderwood will go with a back four of Karnebeek, Walker, Thomson and Macpherson during the course of the tour.
