Is This The Solution?

Date: Saturday, 4th Apr 2020

Declare Celtic, Dundee United, Raith Rovers and Cove as champions. Then for next season create three leagues of 14 teams.

Play each other home and away once. Then split into top seven and bottom seven and play each other again home and away. Two teams relegated/promoted with no play offs.

Because:
1, It would be unfair (and legally challengeable?) to relegate Hearts and Hamilton without completing the 2019/20 season.
2, It is fair to promote Dundee United and Inverness given that Inverness, Ayr and Dundee have all played the same number of games against the same teams in the Championship. It is fortuitous that the stoppage has occurred at the three quarter point in the league.
3, It is a better arrangement in that teams will play their rivals twice home and away.
4, Financially the bigger clubs will still get to play Celtic and Rangers twice home and away.
5, Having the occasional gap in the second half of the season (as each week one team would not have a game) could be helpful in terms of scheduling around European matches or cup replays.
6, The total number of games in the league would be the same as it is now - 38 (26+12 compared to 33+5)
7, In terms of the Championship it would avoid Queen of the South and Partick being relegated without completing the season while bringing up the likes of Raith, Falkirk and Airdrie who again are just past their three quarter stage in the league.
8, Get rid of the play offs which currently are rigged to favour the Premiership team and in any case it is unfair in a league set up that the team fourth could potentially get promoted ahead of the team that came second by virtue of sudden death matches at the end of the season.
9, A top league that includes Hearts, Hamilton, Dundee United and Inverness is an improvement on what currently exists.
10, Such leagues in my view would boost attendances especially in the lower leagues.

Every team will look at potential solutions from the perspective of their own team, the impact on their finances and opportunities for promotion and threat of relegation.

As a Pars fan this would place us in a league with Raith, Falkirk and Partick with great derby matches to look forward to. With two teams being promoted from a new Championship it gives us a great chance for promotion to the top league and certainly crowd pulling matches from being in contention for most of the season.

If we do get promoted then we stand a better chance of staying in the top league and not being relegated the following season. It also mostly removes the risk of relegation which the current tight Championship still presents as Raith and Falkirk have shown.
