Player News
Author: Philip Meldrum Date: Wednesday, 22nd May 2002Dunfermline chairman John Yorkston has within the last few days revealed all four players that Jimmy Calderwood has been tracking in the last few weeks.
As expected, Irish international Gary Dempsey looks set to sign on Friday for an undisclosed sum from Waterford. Furthermore, despite rumours that Derek Stillie`s agent had blocked a move north for the goalkeeper, it seems that terms have been agreed to bring the former Wigan and Aberdeen stopper to East End Park. It now appears that Stille is ready to fight for a place in the Pars` starting line up.
35 year-old veteran Craig Brewster has been given permission to speak to the Pars after he was told by Hibs that he would have to find another club. The former Raith and Dundee Utd striker has recently enjoyed a lengthy spell in Greece, and only a year ago was tracked by AEK Athens. However, he has been in contract talks with the Pars this week over a possible 2 year deal.
Finally, the biggest surprise on Calderwood`s shopping list is St Mirren defender Scott Walker. The ex Stirling Albion player was signed by Saint`s boss Tom Hendrie, and played an important role at centre half during the club`s promotion season. However, St Mirren are currently trying to decrease their wage bill, and it is possible that Walker will arrive at East End on a free transfer.
If Calderwood manages to secure the serives of these players, it seems unlikely that a host of players including Hartley, Dodds, Elliot and Novo will join the club in the summer.
