Latest news from the Parstrust
Author: Stephen Taylor Date: Thursday, 18th Sep 2003After the initial public meeting held last month the Parstrust took a further step following a second meeting held at East End Park tonight. A group of 16 fans met under the guiding hand of Rodney Shearer to discuss what the concept of a supporters trust was and what its purpose would be in all things connected with Dunfermline Athletic.
James Proctor from the Supporters Direct organisation was present to answer questions from the group and to explain some of the issues other trusts at clubs, through out Scotland, are currently doing.
Given that many of the existing trusts were set up at clubs that were in financial trouble, because we are fortunate at the Pars to have very sound stewardship in the boardroom there is not the same degree of urgency or obvious need for a trust from that perspective.
Communication between the club and the fans was thought to be a major factor although the group recognised that there were other organisations that already play a role in these areas such as the Supporters Club or the Centenary Club. It was noted that the trust would have to work closely with these bodies.
A smaller steering group has been formed to look at the detailed mechanics of setting up the trust and to identify what its role would be and how this will be put into action.
Underpinning everything is the aim to strengthen the links between DAFC, the supporters and the wider local community. If you would like more information about the Parstrust or would like to help, contact Rodney Shearer by e-mail on rod@shearer56.fsnet.co.uk
