Dunfermline 4-2 Dundee 2nd Half report

Author: Neil Farrell Date: Saturday, 17th Aug 2002

Dundee came straight out of the blocks after the break and Juan Sara lobbed Ruitenbeek from 25 yards on the 46th minute. Luckily his shot went over for a goal-kick.

Speroni is starting to get a sore back!

2 minutes later the Pars goal was threatened again, this time from a Nemsadaze corner which skipper Thomson booted away to safety.

On the 50th minute a similar corner was cleared by Gary Dempsey who was having a quiet game by his standards.

Big Marco called his big printing hands into action again when Lee Wilkie headed from the middle of the 6-yard box towards goal after a cross from Santos on the 51st minute.

Barry N Nicholson showed signs of his confidence returning when he fired in a tight-foot shot from 20 yards. The shot was parried by Speroni for a corner which was taken short by Kilgannon.

Nemsadaze’s corner on the 55th minute swung in dangerously to the near-post, but Gary Dempsey was there to clear the danger.

Nipper Thomson had a 25-yard free-kick blocked by David McKay on 57 minutes after a hand-ball by Barry Smith. Nemsadaze was booked for not retreating to the 10 yards properly.

Dundee went ahead again for the 2nd time when a counter attack on 58 minutes by Dundee was swept in by former linoland player NACHO NOVO. Marco Ruitenbeek advanced on the striker but did nothing to stop him in his path. After Novo advanced past Ruitenbeek on his main stand side he had an easy tap-in to hit the net.

Scott Wilson made his first appearance in a Pars shirt on the 62nd minute when he came on for Dair and he absorbed the huge applause from the stands to slot in at the back. Bullen was moved out wide where his pace would cause all sorts of problems later on.

Scott Wilson wasted no time in airing his first foul for the Pars when he clattered Juan Sara after being on the pitch for only 60 seconds. The resultant free-kick was taken by Nemsadaze and was caught easily by Marco Ruitenbeek.

The Pars received their only booking of the game when Skerla was adjudged to have flattened Nacho Novo on 66 minutes.

Speroni was at this stage taking every opportunity to waste time and was signalled by the ref to cut down the time he was taking for goal-kicks, etc.

CRAIG BREWSTER equalised for the Pars when he headed in a beautiful cross from the left by Sean Kilgannon. The header was 18 yards out on the graveyard/McCathie side of the penalty-box and ended up in the bottom-left of the goal…perfect!

Scott Thomson was now available to come further forward after Wilson’s coming on and he was taking every opportunity at coming forward, just like Jason Dair in the 1st-half. A shot by him was drilled over the bar from 25 yards on the 73rd minute but he was forgiven as it came from his left foot.

Sean Kilgannon’s game came to an end on the 78th minute when he was replaced by Chris McGroarty.

Gary Dempsey had another attempt from 25 yards with his right foot but it went wide of the graveyard post.

STEVIE CRAWFORD grabbed his second and the Pars third when he lobbed Speroni with the magic right boot from 25 yards on the left after spotting the keeper off his line. The ball took a bounce before hitting the back of the net on the 80th minute.

Speroni was by this time now in a total hurry to take his goal-kicks, etc.

The wee team in Nacho Novo became evident on the 82nd minute when his frustrations in seeing the Pars superiority came to a wee head and he kicked out at the latest signing Scott Wilson and was promptly booked.

With 5 and a half minutes remaining the Pars sealed the win when an Adidas-“Predator” enhanced veering shot seemed to be heading for the advertising boards. The shot actually hit the centre of the post and bounced of the back of the sprawled Speroni and into the net…talk about poetic justice!

This all, however, became too much for the former kirkoddy hitman Novo and he received his second yellow for committing an identical crime, this time to Skipper Scott Thomson 5 minutes after the previous crime.

Dundee replaced Milne for Caballero on the 88th minute.

All in all another good day at the office. Pars fans happy, Dundee fans sad. One Dundee fan waited outside the main entrance and asked if Jim Duffy would come out of the main door. “I doubt it”, said the Pars official. Holding up his mangy scarf then he said, “Oh well then, just ******* throw this at him for me then!

There also seemed to be a wee bit of a problem with the people exiting the graveyard stand. About 700 of them seemed to be stuck in the ground and had to be let out by going trackside and exiting via the Norrie McCathie Stand.
