Dunfermline Athletic FC - 7 top scorers

Date: Sunday, 1st Sep 2024

As one of the oldest Scottish professional football clubs, Dunfermline has had a number of prolific goal scorers throughout its club history. As the team prepares for the 2024-25 season, and an attempt to make headlines in the Scottish Championship, now is a great time to look back on our club history and see the talent we’ve had.

In the article below, we rank the club`s top seven scorers of all time. Top goal scorers have long been a fan favourite topic, whether basking in the glory of a club’s success or informing a flutter. Punters seemingly enjoy testing their knowledge of players` form and fitness against the longer odds on offer.

While Betting on a top goal scorer is a hotly contested option, it’s not the only reason a fan will be interested, so whether you’re looking to build the ultimate dream team or add some extra talking points to your armchair punditry, let’s look at historical top scorers for the club, starting with Dunfermline legend Charlie Dickson.

1. Charlie Dickson

Appearances: 343
Goals: 212
Position: Centre-forward
Nationality: Scottish
Era played: 1950s

Charlie Dickson is a Dunfermline legend and the club’s top goal scorer by a mile. He played for the club during the 1950s before moving to Australia. During his 10 seasons with DAFC, he netted an astonishing 215 goals, giving him an average of 21.5 goals per season. In the current era, we doubt anyone will come near beating this record.

Position: Striker
Nationality: Scottish
Era played: 1920s

Little is known about Skinner, but he has one of the best goal scoring ratios of the DAFC top scorers. His 120 goals in 127 appearances mean he was only just short of a one goal per game average, which is incredibly impressive. He was also the first ever Dunfermline player to be selected for the Scottish international squad.

Players to watch out for in the 2024-25 campaign

Now that we’ve looked at historical figures, we can turn our attention to news and the current squad. Unfortunately, the goal-scoring tallies are nowhere near those of the talents of old, and this is particularly due to our lacking depth and standing in the Scottish Championship.

We currently aren’t one of the top contenders, with a disappointing sixth-place finish during the 2023/24 campaign. Top goal scorers for the 2023-24 season include:

Chris Kane – 5
Craig Wighton – 5
Lewis McCann – 4
Matty Todd – 4
Josh Edwards – 3
Malachi Fagan-Walcott – 3
Owen Moffat – 3

As you can see, the goal scoring has been a shared affair and no individual player has really excelled. Hopefully, things can improve in the 2024-25 season, but for now, if we want to look at the goal-scoring feats of Dunfermline players, we have to turn our heads to the past!
