Dunfermline Athletic

New Management structure for next year

Date: Saturday, 1st Apr 2006

Jim Leishman is to remain as head coach next year at DAFC,
but with a new assistant, he will have an number of Apprentices working alongside him. One of them will take over the following season and become head coach.

Dunfermline`s financial troubles have been well discussed over the last two seasons and following on from Allan Sugar`s THE APPRENTICE tv show on BBC2. John Yorkston has come out this morning with news of this new approach to business in football, Mr Yorkston stated that he wanted to look at a new way of appointing a manger that would appeal to the fans.

Between now and the end of the season, anybody, including Pars fans are encouraged to apply for one of the vacancies to succeed Jim Leishman.

To become an apprentice DAFC will recruit 12 people to start the season with Leish alongside the dugout, and at regular stages one of the recruits will be fired by Jim Leishman or John Yorkston. When near the end of the season only one Apprentice will be left.

It is expected to have live sessions in Legends after each home game to debate which Apprentice should get fired, and fans will be enouraged to come along to these sessions. These will allow the fans to question Mr Leishman and his apprentices and offer their own advice.

This Apprentice left at the end of the season will then become the Head Coach in season 2007-2008.

Marvyn Stewart, President of the Dunfemline Athletic Supporters club thought the idea Brilliant! As a life-long Pars fan Marvyn said even she might try to become one of the Apprentices as she has enough experience and knowledge on how to manage the Pars.

Stephen Taylor, Treasurer of the Pars Supporters Trust, also thought it would be a good idea, and might give some of the many moaners on DAFC.net a chance to really try their management skills.

Details on how to apply will be forthcoming within the next two weeks while interviews to become one of the 12 apprentices will be held on the week after the 31st May.
