Summer Signing No 1, But We All Kane Who It Is!

Date: Wednesday, 24th May 2023

This week, Dunfermline Athletic Football Club announced their first `Summer Signing` of the 2023-2024 Transfer Window – and it was a familiar face returning to KDM Group East End Park.

Last season`s most impressive loanee, arguably, was Kane Ritchie-Hosler: the Englishman was out of contract with Rangers and despite being highly thought of within their B side, the 20-year-old wanted first-team football on a regular basis.

He was getting that to an extent at the beginning of last campaign, as he played in the Lowland League with the Govan Club`s second-string, before making a Deadline Day move to West Fife around 9 months ago.

The youngster had to be patient for an opportunity, after gaining his first few moments in the Black & White as a late substitute at home to Peterhead; but his first major impact came as he came off the bench once more, at half-time against Clyde. He helped re-ignite the side by crossing the ball in, which helped win us a penalty, as we came back from 2-0 down to seal a point against the Bully Wee.

But his central position didn`t last long, as he was shifted out to the Right Wing-Back role – this is where the #21 really thrived, gaining plenty adulation from the supporters and practically becoming indispensable to the side as the term progressed.

A campaign which saw him score 3 goals for the Pars, he was a key target for everyone at Dunfermline for this coming Transfer Window. The expectation may have been a long and drawn out process, one that may not even have been successful...but credit to Ritchie-Hosler, he knew exactly where he wanted to be and hasn`t hesitated in signing a long-term deal with DAFC.

The next challenge is to establish himself in the side within the Championship and prove he is up to that standard, but with the current ability of KRH and his high level of potential that is still to be tapped in to, this could be one of the most exciting deals made by the Football Club in a long, long, time.

And of course, this is just the first summer signing – we suspect there`ll be many more to come. If the players can be of the same pedigree as Kane, then a squad with a real statement of intent is being built by James McPake and his staff...
