GOLF SUCCESS for PARS SUPPORTERS’ TRUST
Date: Monday, 11th Oct 2004Dunfermline Athletic stars of the past, present and future all featured in Friday’s inaugural fund raising Golf event organised by the Pars Supporters’ Trust.
A cloudless sky greeted the 72 participants in the Celebrity / Am golf tournament, at the beautifully manicured Pitfirrane Golf Course in Crossford, on Friday 8 October.
The 18 sponsors had each generously contributed £200 to enter a team and the match was keenly contested.
The winning team was Martax, led by former golf club captain Ed Martin.
Outstanding golfer of the day was young footballer Ian Campbell, son of ex Pars manager Dick, who not only was in the winning team but had the longest drive at the 12th hole and nearest the pin at the 13th – not a bad day’s work for “Yano”.
Early estimates are that in excess of £2,500 will have been raised by the Trust. The sum will be used to support the community program and other projects at East End Park.
Dunfermline Athletic Chairman John Yorkston attended the event and agreed with organiser Brian Jolly that the occasion marked the start of a higher level of co-operation and partnership between Dunfermline Athletic FC and the Pars Supporters’ Trust.
Co–organisers Margaret Ross, Trust Chairman, and member Jane Baird thanked the sponsors for their contributions, Dunfermline Golf Club for hosting this year’s competition, Dunfermline Athletic Football Club and the many footballers past and present who gave so generously of their time.
They made particular mention of sponsors Bill Colvin, CEO of NHP plc and Peter Proud, Global Account Manager of Microsoft who had made very generous additional contributions to the financial success of the day.
The following Pars players attended: Craig Brewster; Scott Thomson; Andy Tod; Greg Shields; Barry Nicholson; Pat Scullion; Scott Y Thompson; Ian Campbell; together with Paul Atkinson (Physio.) and Director of Football, Jim Leishman
