Come on Ye Pars

Early start today for the Cup Tie against Celtic and I hope that Pars fans true character comes out today.

... And that jubilation continued in the streets of Dunfermline as the Pars heroes made their way down the High Street in their open-top bus, to a civic reception in the City Chambers.

The crowds sang the Eurovision it`Congratulations`until they were hoarse!. Truly a night to remember.

We`ve had a mixed season so far, due to a variety of reasons. So lets have some good cheer when the teams come out today and through out the game, no matter the score.

Lets put everything behind us and regardless of the score lets show the country (world?) how Pars fans behave. I was disappointed at the length of booing that Stevie Crawford got on his return (expected some, yes, but not to that extent).

We want to move on, and we should be thankfull that the income from the Celtic game will help the club immensely and ensure that we can bring in additional players to bolster the squad (this must be the worst season for injuries in a long time). We can hope that a Cup shock is on the cards (it is possible) and if we are to do that the 12th man (you, the fans) needs to be cheering on the team. I know that there will also be many fans around the world watching or listening to the match.

Our memories of the Cup Final in May 2004 will never be forgotton, beaten but not disgraced.

I have also received an email from Stuart in Australia who has been a Pars fan for a long time, and I thought it worth sharing you with his memories:

Once again I write to let you know as a ken Pars fan, now almost twenty five years in Australia, the photo of the team after we beat Celtic on the way to the 1968 Cup win brought many memories back.

I was at the game at Parkhead that day, and I will never forget how scared I was (at 16 years of age) as we left the ground that day. I can also remember how scared the bus driver was and told us not to sing until we were out of Glasgow. We were in full voice before he got the bus into second gear!, and returned to Dunfermline hoarse, ecstatic and minus about four windows which had been smashed as we left Parkhead (and also drove past Valleyfield!) It was a day I will never forget, and the Cup Final win against Hearts was perhaps an anti climax. Remember Celtic had been crowned the European Champions the year before in 1967.

Of course the Cup Final victory lead to the last game of the season against Celtic who had won the league, courtesy of Rangers being beaten by Aberdeen the same day as the Cup Final! I will also never forget Roy Barry leading the team out against Celtic that night, with people hanging off the floodlights, people on top of the stands etc as the largest crowd ever crammed into East End.

The roar that the Pars got as they went around East End Park with the cup before the Game was also fantastic, with the Celtic supporters joining in the welcome with the Black and White brigade. Sadly Celtic won the game 2.1

Let`s hope that we can beat Celtic this Sunday.
