Post Match Interviews
Author: Stuart Meldrum Date: Tuesday, 1st Aug 2006Highlights from interviews given by Valdas Ivanauskas, Stephen Simmons, Jim Leishman and Greg Shields after the game against Hearts at EEP.
Valdas Ivanauskas
Valdas is happy with a victory and more so because it is the first of the season, he does however reiterate that there are no easy games in the SPL, this one being no exception. He felt that Dunfermline had big chances to go 2-1 up after the equaliser but feels his is a quality team and was able to go on and score the second goal. He carries on to talk about Rudi Skacel leaving and what will happen to the money.
Stephen Simmons
Stephen explains that everyone is gutted with the result although he is very happy to claim the goal and even more so because its against his old team. He tells us that the other players had a word with Freddie about his missed chance and that he should always make the keeper work. Stephen couldn`t care less about how the critics have already labled the side relegation candidates and is adamant it doesnt make any difference to how they goal about each game.
Jim Leishman
Jim explains the problems that lead to the goals but also believes that there are alot of positives to take from the performance. He decides to make no comment about the standard of refereeing in the game but its clear that he was far from happy with the consistancy. He didnt see the incident that got Andy Tod sent off and is very confused at Craig Roberston being sent to the stand as he was talking to his opposite number in the Hearts dug-out. Jim mentions how dissapointed he is that Greg Ross has missed the opportunity to play in the final for the Scotland U19 squad, as he was an automatic choice at right back.
Greg Shields
Greg feels that his side threw away three points against Hearts having had a number of chances at 1-1 to take the lead. He doesnt believe that the free-kick that lead to the Hearts winner was the right decision and to him it was not a foul with a typical dive from a foreign player. Credit is given to the teams battling qualities if not for the crisp, flowing football and this is a plus point to take from defeat.
