Post Match Interviews
Author: Stuart Meldrum Date: Monday, 19th Feb 2007Highlights from interviews given by Stephen Kenny, Jim Jeffries, Jim O`Brien and Stevie Crawford the game against Kilmarnock at EEP.
Stephen Kenny
Stephen admits that the game was a lost opportunity to gain ground on St. Mirren given the half-time situation. He believed that the team played well enough in the first half and got the reward by going level against 10 men. There were a few very good chances to take the lead but they just didn’t come off, though the two wingers Hammill and O’Brien caused a lot of problems. having gone a goal down it was a nervous affair but it was still disappointing to come away with only a point. When asked about the lack of goals Stephen points out that the team have scored in the Cup but that it’s the league wins that are needed and that he will be going for them, especially at home. Confidence is definitely a factor in scoring goals but he will work to help that and do better, especially following the split.
Jim Jeffries
Jim was pleased with how his side started the game, and getting the early goal was a great boost, but he felt a little complacency may have crept in. The goal they lost was branded unbelievable and the defender was not defended by his manager who says he had no idea what he was doing and as he was the last man a red card was deserved. Due to the sending off Jim felt it would only be a matter of time before Dunfermline won the game so things had to change and it was a more competitive game as a result, and he was delighted to get the point away from home.
Jim O`Brien
Jim is pleased that team hasnt been beaten but that, to him, it feels like a defeat to not go away with the points. He hopes that now that they have stopped the goal drought that it will start a trend of goal scoring, he pays tribute to Crawford for stepping up and scoring the penalty under alot of pressure. On the glaring miss by Scott Wilson he sticks up for the defender explaining how he has kept them in many a game with last ditch tackles so theres no bad feelings about the miss that could have won the game. Jim also missed a good chance and blames it on a bit of a rush of blood to the head as he blasted it high and wide when he could have cut it across.
Stevie Crawford
Stevie admits that Hammill wanted to take the penalty but that he was confident enough to step up and score the goal. He feels the team created enough chances to win and is disappointed not to have won the game. He doesn’t blame Scott for not scoring as he has done well in the past, especially against Hearts last week. He credits Killies tactics when down to 10 men but overall the game feels like a defeat after failing to gain ground on St. Mirren.
