Pars squad numbers for 2002/03
Author: Philip Meldrum Date: Saturday, 22nd Jun 2002Dunfermline Athletic boss Jimmy Calderwood has decided upon his squad numbers for the coming season.
Amongst the most significant of these numbers is without doubt Calderwood's decision to hand Marco Ruitenbeek the number 1 shirt for the third consecutive season. Many fans believed that new signing Derek Stille would become the first choice, with Marco providing the necessary back-up. However, it now seems that the ex-Wigan stopper is going to start the season on the bench.
Furthermore, Craig Brewster is likely to be Calderwood's first choice to partner Stevie Crawford up front. The 35 year old was signed to help develop the clubs younger players, but after being handed the number 10 shirt it appears that he will be a first team regular. This could result in yet another frustrating season for Lee Bullen and Colin Nish, whos first team appearences were restricted towards the end of last season following the arrival of Senyi N'Diyae.
The Dunfermline Athletic squad numbers for the 2002/03 season are as follows:
1.M.Ruitenbeek
2.G.Macpherson
3.J.Dair
4.A.Karnebeek
5.A.Skerla
6.S.Thomson
7.B.Nicholson
8.G.Mason
9.S.Crawford
10.C.Brewster
11.S.Petrie
12.S.Hampshire
14.Y.Rossi
15.S.Walker
16.C.McGroarty
17.S.Kilgannon
18.G.Dempsey
19.D.Nicholls
20.D.Stillie
21.Bullen
22.K.Mcleish
23.S.Boyle
24.C.Nish
Twenty one of these players will be given the chance to impress when the team flies out to New Zealand on a two and a half week tour. Chris McGroarty will not be part of that squad due to a hamstring injury.
Somewhat surprisingly both Jason Dair and Stewart Petrie have held on to their number 3 and 11 shirts respectively. Neither player figured heavily in Calderwood's plans last year. New signing Scott Walker will wear the number 15 jersey, and Gary Dempsey from Waterford will wear number 18. Andre Karnebeek will take hold of the outgoing Justin Skinner's number 4 shirt.
