ROB MATTHAEI
Author: Douglas Scott Date: Sunday, 21st May 2000Jimmy Calderwood has signed 33 year old (b 20-9-66) midfielder Rob Matthaei from Motherwell on a two year deal.
A row between Manager Billy Davies and the 5'9" Motherwell midfielder Rob Matthaei led to the Amsterdam man asking Dunfermline if he could come and train with them.
After a week Dunfermline asked if he would be interested in joining them. So on 17th May Rob Matthaei joined Dunfermline. Previous clubs are Haarlem (Dutch Premier League), De Graaffschap (Dutch First Division / Premier), FC Volendam (1997-98)and Motherwell since July 1998.
Rob will renew acquantancies with Michel Doesburg who also joined from Motherwell towards the end of the 1999-2000 season.
These two will hopefully prove themselves to be worthy signings but players of this age are not what the fans expected from Calderwood.
There is time yet for the manager to use his contacts in Holland to bring in younger talent which might just come good in the SPL.
Marco Ruitenbeek (32) a goalkeeper was signed from Go Ahead Eagles last week.
