Phil Babb a Target
Author: Douglas Scott Date: Saturday, 3rd Jun 2000Republic of Ireland internationalist Phil Babb (29) has emerged as a signing target for Jimmy Calderwood.
Babb who played against Scotland on Tuesday 30th May is currently out of favour with Liverpool manager Gerard Houllier and has been on loan to neighbours, Tranmere.
On the face of it this looks an ambitious move from the Pars.
Chairman John Yorkston was originally quoted - "Babb is someone we are considering. He is the kind of player manager Jimmy Calderwood is looking for - a central defender with experience, who is comfortable with the ball at his feet".
Mr Yorkston then explained that although the club had enquired about the player, it was unlikely that he would be joining the Pars.
The 6` tall defender joined Liverpool from Coventry in September 1994 for a fee of £3.6m. He has made 164 appearances for Liverpool and has won 31 international caps. Phil Babb was born in Lambeth on 30/11/70.
