The Four Kings
Date: Wednesday, 7th Aug 2019In football, History has an uncanny knack of repeating itself. It was Jim Leishman who coined the phrase "selling an Ace to buy four Kings". Are you able to identify the Four Kings ?
It was a reference to Pars Fans` disappointment to the selling of former Queens Park midfielder Ian McCall to Rangers for an eye watering £200,000 in 1987.
He was destined to return in 1990-91 from Bradford City. He made 85 appearances in all.
Soon after Rangers signed McCall, the Pars signed John Holt,Billy Kirkwood,George Cowie ,Bobby Smith and Gary Riddell.
However, as was mentioned Jim leishman referred to "four kings" who we thought were John Holt, George Cowie, Billy Kirkwood and Stuart Beedie. Perhaps somebody has a better recollection ? Further checking suggesta that one was Bobby Smith and not Stuart Beedie.
Today we have lost the class act which was Jackson Longridge but that meant the arrival of Paul Paton, Ryan Dow, Kevin Nisbet and Euan Murray.
If the Jim Leishman experience rubs off on Stevie Crawford ,none of us will be complaining but ,please, save us the poetry!!
