Week of Action
Date: Wednesday, 22nd Mar 2023On Saturday the 18th March 2023, Dunfermline Athletic Football Club once again joined forces with Clubs from over 20 countries across Europe, in supporting UEFA`s Centre for Access to Football in Europe (CAFE), in their 11th annual Week of Action.
As part of the event, a DAFC Select would face the Cerebral Palsy Scotland National Men`s Team in an exhibition match at KDM Group East End Park, as part of the Football Club`s `Half-Time Entertainment` package.
Former players such as Davie Westwood, Andy Tod, Scott Thomson, Hamish French and John Watson participated, in what turned out to be an impressive victory for the Legends side.
The Full 8 Minute Match: DAFC Select vs CP Scotland
The CP Scotland side, managed by Greig Taylor, had reached the finals of the World Championships just last year, unfortunately losing out to Colombia in the Final.
A great achievement by the Scots, with the future looking bright for this year`s upcoming European Championships.
They were the special guests as part of Saturday`s CAFE event held by the Pars; here is how they got on:
CAFE`s Week of Action 2023
On the field, things didn`t go as smoothly this weekend, however. FC Edinburgh were the visitors and proved a tough nut to crack for the league leaders. After a bright opening, Matty Todd had to be replaced by Chris Mochrie – that early spark in the hosts attack seemed to dissipate slightly.
Alan Maybury`s men battled hard and created a few half-chances of their own, the clearest of them all coming when Kyle Macdonald had to scramble a clearance over his own bar, following a miscommunication between Kyle Benedictus and Deniz Mehmet.
But Robbie Mutch was the busier of the keepers, saving a couple of Kane Ritchie-Hosler efforts prior to the break.
Highlights: Dunfermline Athletic 0-0 FC Edinburgh
The second-half was largely a non-event; the spectacle was lost due to the defensive nature of the Citizens, coupled with an uncharacteristic lack of quality in the final third by James McPake`s side.
A Week of Action is likely this mid-week, I would suggest as McPake and Dave Mackay try and make sure that the creative spark within the team returns with a bang this Saturday against Montrose.
That will not be an easy fixture, however: the only side to defeat Dunfermline Athletic in SPFL cinch League One so far, Stewart Petrie`s men will be looking to make it two wins from two against the West Fifers at Links Park this campaign.
A late strike by Brazilian, Matheus Machado, won the match for the Gable Endies last weekend away to Kelty Hearts, with the Angus side pushing for the promotion play-offs. A victory this weekend would see them take a step closer to achieving that goal, as they track down the sides above them.
Whereas, for Athletic, a positive result would potentially see them increase their lead at the top; 24 points are left to play for, with McPake`s men 9 points clear of Falkirk in second. The title is close, yet also so far.
