Author: Neil Farrell Date: Sunday, 28th Jul 2002DAFC.net spoke to Jimmy Calderwood after the final friendly match against Everton on Saturday.
Here are some of the things he reflected on...
Despite the 3-0 defeat against Premiership side Everton, Pars boss Jimmy Calderwood took some positive aspects from the game.
He said, “It wasn’t a very exciting game. We tried to change it about because we didn’t show our supporters too much in the 1st half.
“In the 2nd half we just went for it (2-4-4 formation) as we’ve done many times before. I thought we done tremendously well in the 2nd half for 25 minutes, we created a lot of chances, pace of the game was a lot higher and we actually dominated it for 25 minutes. We never got the goal which we deserved at that moment.
“They brought a couple of their top players on and run out comfortable winners in the end.
Jimmy was quite upbeat after the game and he admitted he was pleased at the amount of chances created by the Pars.
“You’ve got to try and see how far you are against quality teams like that. The big plus for me is we’ve dominated them like that for 25 minutes…ok, we’ve lost the game but we created a lot of chances against a good team, we’ve took risks against a team with 2 very good and pacey forwards and you don’t have that same standard up here with all due respect.”
As well as that Jimmy also singled out special praise for defender Andrius Skerla.
He added “I thought Skerla was magnificent today. Every time there was a break they’re very quick, very clever and he just stood his ground and dominated the 2 centre forwards. That’s a big plus point.”
