Raith May Vente Their Frustrations This Weekend
Date: Tuesday, 22nd Aug 2023Last Saturday saw Dunfermline Athletic out of action, due to their Viaplay Cup campaign having finished at the Group Stage round of the competition for Season 2023-2024. However, this weekend`s opponents would take to the field 6 days prior to the first SPFL cinch Championship Fife Derby of the campaign.
Raith Rovers travelled to Hibernian in the Last 16, looking to cause an upset in the Scottish League Cup. Hibs, on the back of winning on aggregate against FC Luzern of Switzerland in the UEFA Europa Conference League 3rd Qualifying Round just three days prior, were able to name a strong side despite Lee Johnson making changes, to freshen up his starting eleven against the Kirkcaldy side.
The game was 0-0 at the break, but Elie Youan opened the scoring twelve minutes into the second period for the Leith club. However, just over ten minutes later, for Pars striker Callum Smith would bag an equaliser in front of the jubilant visiting supporters, as Ian Murray`s men fought their way back into the contest.
But, their joy was short lived – within 60 seconds, Hibs had brought Dutch striker Dylan Vente on as a substitute before he found the back of the net instantly, making an immediate impact for his new club, with 2 goals in 4 appearances for the Hibees.
It was a valiant effort by our Fife neighbours, but alas, their time in the competition was over for another term. Now, they prepare to head to KDM Group East End Park this weekend, looking to a win over James McPake`s men. They may want to Vente their frustrations, but will a vociferous and boisterous home crowd see Dunfermline Athletic come out on top on this occasion?
