Date: Wednesday, 29th May 2024It has been interesting times since Inverness Caledonian Thistle were relegated from the Scottish Championship via the Play-Offs, following defeat to Hamilton Academical.
There were initial rumours of the Club going part-time and potential financial difficulties for the Highlanders, but after a few days of stewing over the hurt and disappointment of going down to League One for next term, the Caley Jags released a statement confirming they will remain a full-time outfit next season.
However, the relief from the supporters was short lived, due to a quite incredible and unforeseen change in circumstances in regards to the Football Club`s training base moving forward. At present, Inverness train at Fort George and are still a constant within the Ciy as players – and sometimes their families – live in the area and interact with the local community.
But, last Friday afternoon, ICT announced that from the beginning of the 2024-2025 season, they`d be relocating their training centre from the Highland Capital to Fife...yes, FIFE !!
New Central Park (YES you read that correctly 1!)was named as the new training ground for Duncan Ferguson`s men, with the now Scottish third-tier side agreeing a deal with fellow League One side Kelty Hearts, in which Thistle will use their facilities and offices Monday – Friday.
This news has outraged fans of Inverness Caledonian Thistle and has caused a feeling of “betrayal” from the local community.
The Inverness Courier ran with this headline on the front of their newspaper earlier on this week, with Caley chairman Ross Morrison saying he understands that people will be “pi*d off” and if it didn`t benefit ICT going forward, he would step down from his position.
Inverness fans told their local newspaper that they would rather the Football Club went into administration than went ahead with the Kelty Hearts move.
Supporters remain adamant they will “get their Club back”.
An interesting start to the Summer for the Highlanders; we all wait with anticipation at how this will play out.
In a strange and bizarre twist, Fife Council have intimated that they own the ground that Kelty Hearts use. Fife Council have had no involvement with the discussions or agreement. More information on link below:
