Dunfermline Athletic

Talking Up The Halbeath Road

Date: Monday, 4th Aug 2025

Fife football heroes hark back to their glory days
Six local footballing greats will recall their Dunfermline Athletic glory days at a charity event celebrating five decades of the club’s illustrious history.

Taking centre stage will be four players who each clocked up 200-plus games for the Pars – Bert Paton, Bonar Mercer, Ian Westwater and Scott Thomson.

Also in attendance will be two giants who played alongside Bert Paton in the club’s golden era of the 1960s – Alex Smith and Roy Barry.

Talking Up the Halbeath Road will be hosted by sports writer and broadcaster Graham Spiers. Also taking part is local journalist and lifelong Pars fan Ronnie Kerr.

The event will be held in the Purvis Suite at East End Park on Friday, 8 August, from 7.30 to 11pm. Tickets are £15 with all profits going to Alzheimer Scotland.

Co-host Ronnie Kerr hopes the event will raise vital funds and inspire fans to dream big as the new season unfolds – Dunfermline’s first home League match is against Airdrieonians the following day.

Says Ronnie: ”There’s a real mood of optimism around the club just now – rekindling so many great memories can help get fans fired up for the season ahead.”
