SETANTA TV deal falls through
Author: Niall Shaw Date: Friday, 6th Sep 2002Scottish football has been dealt another financial blow with the news the Setanta Sport deal to screen 10 pay-per-view games has been scrapped.
The clubs could muster only an 8-4 vote in acceptance for the £600,000 deal, but an 11-1 majority was needed.
Setanta had hoped to secure a deal to show the live games but their botched attempt to screen Celtic` s Champions League qualifier against FC Basle wrecked any chance.
Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness said: "The collapse of the deal does indicate the scale of the overall financial situation within Scottish football.
"I`m still hopeful another deal to show pay-per-view games can be struck, but it must be right.
"We have to offer a service to people in England and other parts of the world who don`t receive the BBC coverage and can`t see live Scottish games.
"That`s another way of raising the profile of Scottish football."
