JC: Vogts can turn us around
Author: Niall Shaw Date: Wednesday, 11th Sep 2002Dunfermline manager Jimmy Calderwood feels the criticism of Scotland manager Berti Vogts has been harsh, despite describing the weekend result as "absolute horrendous".
Scotland crashed to an embarrassing 2-2 draw in the Faroe Islands after being two goals down after just 12 minutes.
But now Calderwood insists the country does have some top quality players and that they could even pull off a shock in Iceland.
Calderwood said: "That`s part and parcel of the job nowadays. That`s the way it goes.
"You can`t run away from the fact that it was an absolutely disastrous result for us.
"Even with Matteo and Hutchison injured we should still be good enough to win those games, no disrespect to the Faroes. We were lucky, but lessons have got to be learnt from that.
"People say we haven`t got the players, but I don`t think it`s as bad as what they say. That`s a personal opinion.
"It`s only been five or six games, which isn`t a long time and it`s not an easy place to come as a foreigner.
"He`s got to get used to the mentality. I can`t imagine the kind of pressure he`s under.
"It`s an absolutely horrendous result, but it`s not fair after one game.
"We`ve got a very difficult game in Iceland, but knowing Scotland we can go there when we are expecting doom and win.
"We are a bit like that in this country. When the chips are down hopefully we will get the job done."
