Jimmy Calderwood believes the CIS Cup has lost some of its appeal because there is no European place up for grabs. The in-form SPL side start their campaign at Second Division high-fliers Cowdenbeath.

The Pars boss is certainly taking the competition seriously as he wants to give the fans a day out at Hampden Park - but he admits their best chance of making the final is if the Old Firm meet early.

"It`s maybe not the easiest thing to win because Rangers and Celtic are in that as well," said Calderwood. The best chance for anybody is for them to get drawn together and somebody does a Motherwell and goes and beats them in one of the rounds

CALDERWOOD LEAVES NOTHING TO CHANCE
Jimmy Calderwood has warned his players to stay focused on tonight`s CIS Cup tie or risk the embarrassment of an early exit at the hands of Fife rivals Cowdenbeath.

The Pars` head coach is taking the second round match against the Blue Brazil so seriously that he sent a spy to Central Park to watch Saturday`s game against Stenhousemuir.

Calderwood rates losing 0-3 to Ayr United in the fourth round of last year`s Tennent`s Scottish Cup as one of the low points of his time in charge at East End Park.
