Cap call for Pars Pair
Author: Niall Shaw Date: Thursday, 3rd Oct 2002Centre-back Andrius Skerla and midfielder Gary Dempsey have both been selected by their respective countries for forthcoming matches.
Skerla will fly home to Lithuania after the Partick Thistle game to prepare for his country`s double header against the Faroe Islands and Iceland. He already has 30 caps to his name.
In-form midfielder Dempsey, meanwhile, has been picked for the Republic of Ireland`s U21 squad for a match with Switzerland. Pars` Boss Jimmy Calderwood has confessed that the rapid progress of former Everton youth player Dempsey has taken him by surprise.
Dempsey was signed from Irish League side Waterford in the close season and Calderwood said: "He has worked very, very hard and done better than I would have expected. I didn`t expect him to make an impact so early. He had to work on his condition and get used to the training."
