Terrors sack Smith
Author: Niall Shaw Date: Monday, 7th Oct 2002Dundee United have announced this morning that Alex Smith has been relieved of his duties as Team Manager, following their poor start to the season.
Smith could argue that he was brought in to steady the Tannadice ship, but with a return of 22 wins from 84 league games, new owner Eddie Thompson has decided that it is time for a new man to take charge of team affairs.
The main name in the frame is ex-Par Ian McCall, currently boss of runaway Division One leaders, Falkirk. Any approach for McCall has been denied by both United and Falkirk.
Another name that has been mentioned is ex-Rangers boss Walter Smith, with possibly Archie Knox or Richard Gough as his assistant.
