Taribo West or John West
Author: Brian Duncan Date: Monday, 28th Oct 2002Seems Martin O`Neill is upset by John Yorkston`s comments.
According to the Daily Record Martin O`Neill is upset at John Yorkston for mentioning O`Neill may be interested in Taribo West. Yorkston was not `fuming` at the Press Conference, I suspect it was a sense of relief but also disappointment because of the changing demands made.
Yorkston did say that another Scottish Club [and mentioned Martin] and possible other English Clubs were apparently interested in West. Nothing has been said as to whether Celtic have enquired about West, but it would seem obvious for Celtic to at least see if there was any mileage in it (as I`m sure they do on all players that are free). However, I`m also sure that they would have decided very quickly not to pursue.
However, its ridiculous of the Daily Record to attempt to stir up trouble by saying that Dunfermline abandoned the deal due to any other club being interested. It was very clear from the Press Conference that the reason West was not wanted was of the problems fitting into the Club and his [agents] financial demands.
Yorkston did not make any real attempt to clarify where the issues were (the deal agreed 3 weeks ago) except refer to the Sunday Paper stories [and also thanked the Sunday Papers for free publicity for Dunfermline]
