Author: Michael Ross Date: Tuesday, 24th Dec 2002SCOTLAND and Dunfermline Athletic midfielder Barry Nicholson could be out of the Pars line- up until after the winter shutdown due to a broken wrist.
The former gers player underwent X-rays in hospital yesterday and these confirmed he had sustained a fracture in falling awkwardly during the recent 3- 0 win over Aberdeen.
The 24-year-old played through the pain barrier for the Scotland Futures side in their 3-3 draw with Germany last week after being given the all- clear to wear a light cast on the injury.
However, Pars manager Jimmy Calderwood last night admitted the decision as to whether or not the influential youngster misses the crucial festive period now lies with the doctors. Calderwood said: "Barry has definitely broken a bone and it`s going to be a question of whether he needs to have a heavy or a light cast on it.
"But if the surgeons say he needs a heavy cast, then it looks as if he`ll be out until the end of January."
Hunt........
Calderwood was also talking in confidence about completing the transfer of Republic of Ireland under-21 striker Noel Hunt, despite competition from English First Division leaders Portsmouth. Calderwoods pars lodged a formal bid with Shamrock Rovers last week following the highly- rated 19-year-old`s successful three-day trial at East End Park but a deal has yet to be concluded.
Calderwood believes the teenager will still become a Dunfermline player during next month`s transfer window.
"We are still speaking to Shamrock Rovers because they`ve changed a couple of things in the offer but I`m confident we`ll get something done in due course.
