De Gier future still undecided
Author: Stephen Taylor Date: Sunday, 29th Dec 2002Jack De Gier still waits to find out where he will be plying his trade after the January transfer window is closed.
The former Pars striker now back in Holland with FC Twente Enschede. Jack spoke briefly at half time with DAFC,net. He is not sure what is happening and the indications were that he would like to come back to East End Park. His club are not interested in a loan deal as they are very keen to get Jack and his salary off their payroll.
Jack is aware that Jimmy Calderwood has made an offer to Twente but he does not know what the outcome is. He is back in the first team squad at Twente but he is only on the bench and is clearly unhappy with his current situation. He will be able to leave on a free transfer at the end of the season under the Bosman rules and ,as a result, Twente will be keen to recoup a transfer fee next month.
A further problem is that in January another Twente striker returns from a loan period in Austria which will mean there will be 6 centre forwards vying for two places in the Twente side.It seems almost certain that Jack will be going and the only question is where. DAFC.net suggested that Crawford and Brewster could do with his support. The genial Dutch striker smiled knowingly but was not giving anything further away. But it does beg the question, as to why he was back watching his old team today ?
