New Faces quest continues
Author: Philip Meldrum Date: Thursday, 30th May 2002Dunfermline manager Jimmy Calderwood is once again on the lookout for fresh faces.
This time in the shape of a centre half. Calderwood had originally tried to sign St Mirren's Scott Walker as a replacement for the outgoing Justin Skinner - but a move fell through for the 27 year-old after St Mirren
demanded a transfer fee for the player.
However, it now seems that the Pars have turned their attention to 20 year-old centre half Alan McDermott, currently with Manchester United.
Calderwood has already admitted that he "has never seen him play", though it is possible that the Irish youngster may be tempted away from Old Trafford by the prospect of first team football. The Pars manager also hinted that McDermott is just one of many players currently being tracked by the club- "We are currently looking for a centre half and he is one of three or four names".
Any chances of Greg Strong joining the Pars in the close season were finally put to bed, as the ex Motherwell stopper put pen to paper to sign a 3 year deal with Hull City. It now seems liklely that the Pars will have four new faces in the squad that will fly out for pre season tours of New Zealand and Holland.
