Greg Shields
Author: Philip Meldrum Date: Friday, 31st May 2002Former Pars defender Greg Shields has today joined Kilmarnock. News of JC's interest in Manchester United's Alan McDermott may be scuppered by Shrewsbury.
This news will come as a real blow to many Pars fans who would have loved to see the 25 year-old rejoin the club for another season in the SPL. Shields had been on loan until the end of the season at Rugby Park, and the versatile defender has obviously done enough to impress Kille boss Jim Jeffries - the man who tried to bring him to Tynecastle four years ago.
The ex-Rangers stopper was signed by Bert Paton, but left the Pars in order to join Charlton where he was injured, and struggled to hold down a first team place after impressing early on. A fully fit Greg, would for many Pars' fans have been the ideal replacement for Justin Skinner.
Meanwhile, Jimmy Calderwood may have lost out on the chase to bring Manchester United's Alan McDermott to East End Park. Third division side Shrewsberry have appeared as front runners to secure the Irish man's services. However, no deal has been done yet, and it is likely that the player's future will be decided in the coming weeks.
