Look at new goalkeeper Derek Stillie
Author: Jason Barber Date: Friday, 7th Jun 2002Jimmy Calderwood's targets were always going to include a goalkeeper. Scott Y Thomson stepped into a goalkeeping coach role at the end of last season and will now only be called upon in REAL emergencies (thinking back to season 87/88 here!)
Derek Stillie was snapped up on a free transfer by Dunfermline, here we take a quick look back at his career to date.
Stillie made his debut for Aberdeen at home to the Pars back on the 4th January 1997. A 2-0 victory for DAFC did not mark a great start to his career! 3 clean sheets in his following 7 games marked an end to his first season as a top team keeper.
Fleeting appearances over the next few seasons (22 in total) saw Stillie move down South to try his hand at more ragular first team action.
A free transfer to English Second Division side Wigan Athletic, saw Stillie become number one choice for the first time.
His first season saw Wigan go all the way to the 2nd division play off final, where he saw his new club fall at the last hurdle in Cardiff, losing 3-2 to Gillingham.
A lack of goals at the other end of the pitch never saw Wigan threaten a promotion place last season and Stillie played his last game for the club back in March this year.
He now comes to Dunfermline looking to put pressure on regular number one, Marco Ruitenbeek. Marco is leaving the club at the end of this season as he retires home to help in his family's business.
Here's hoping that if he is called upon, Derek can relied on as good back up. Should Marco be unlucky enough to suffer from injury or suspension, the management team will no doubt look for Derek to form a solid last line of defence.
