Pars Supporters Trust
Author: Stephen Taylor Date: Friday, 24th Oct 2003The move towards setting up a Supporters Trust for Dunfermline fans has been progressing at a pace in the past two months. Fans wanting to find out more can meet the Steering group at the Legends Re-United day on 2 November
Following a successful public meeting held back in August, a small Steering Group has been working very hard in the past couple of months to determine if there is enough sustainable interest to set up a Supporters Trust for Dunfermline Athletic football fans.
The concept of supporters trusts is now well established with over 90 trusts now in existence throughout the UK. Many of these trusts were set up in situations where the football club was in dire financial straits. Clearly, that is not the position at Dunfermline, where the club is well run under the current stewardship of Chairman John Yorkston and his fellow directors.
Essentially, the main aim of the fledgling Pars Supporters Trust would be to bring the fans and the club closer together. The trust would be a completely independent body run by the fans and would include the trust holding shares in the football club. The club has already indicated it would welcome representation at Board Meetings to keep the Directors in touch with the fans and current issues.
To take things a step further the Steering Group tasked up to investigate the setting up of a trust will be at the “Legends Re-United” day at East End Park on Sunday 2 November. This will provide fans with an opportunity to find out what a supporters trust is all about and to express an interest in joining the trust. Equally, the group will be happy to find out what issues are causing concern for Pars supporters at this time. Further details can also be found on the website....
