Dunfermline Athletic 0 Rangers 4
Tue, 31st Dec 2013
This was billed as the end of year table-topping clash, but it turned out to be men against boys as the Ibrox club took ruthless advantage of defensive errors to run out easy winners. Dunfermline had a couple of early half chances, but some naïve defending allowed Aird to score the opening goal. Further mistakes led to goals by Clark, Law and Crawford and it was a chastened Pars squad that left the field at the end.

Another away trip to a windy venue and another win, although this time the Pars never looked in too much trouble. Geggan took advantage of a loose ball to give the Pars an early lead which Thomson doubled with a header. A fine Falkingham strike made the points secure midway through the second half, and the Pars inexperienced defence kept a clean sheet to round off a good job well done.

Sometimes conditions can spoil a game. Occasionally they can make for a thrilling encounter as was the case on a foul day at Somerset Park. Gilmour shot the home team ahead with a wind-assisted effort from the half-way line before Moffat took advantages of a slip by Williamson to score the second. A tremendous strike by Husband pulled one back before the interval, Wallace equalised from the spot before cracking in a fine third, and Moore wrapped things up with a superb finish on the 90 minutes.

There’s leaving it late, and leaving it late. The lights were practically out by the time Jordan Moore fired home a loose ball to win the Pars a point that they barely deserved.
