Football has a strange capacity for being uplifting one moment before landing you a low blow the next. I don’t use the word “gutted” often, but it is the mot juste on this occasion as it describes how we all must have felt when the Jags equalised in the 95th minute. Partick had dominated the first half, but had only one goal to show for it, ironically scored by former Pars skipper Jordan McMillan. The introduction of Ryan Wallace at half-time had seemed a master-stroke as his equaliser and a double from Ryan Thomson had the Pars 3-1 up and avoiding the play-offs, before first Erskine pulled one back, and then Lawless equalised right at the death.

The Pars travel to Firhill to take on the 2012-13 First Division Champions Partick Thistle for an essential win to remain in 8th place. The champions will no doubt be in title party mode especially with the presentation of the Cup post match. We wish them all the best in the SPL next season.

This was a crucial match with defeat for the Pars likely to consign them to the lottery of the play-offs. However, another gutsy and hard-working performance was rewarded when Stephen Husband scored the only goal of the game from the penalty spot, and as a result the Pars edge out of the play-off position.

This may have been the game when the young Pars, some barely older than the pre-match mascots, came of age. Leading from an early Ryan Thomson goal, they were forced further and further back as the game wore on, but John Potter proved a calming influence on his young troops and they held out to win a valuable three points.

Twice the Pars conceded bad goals, twice they fought back to equalise. However, Thomson’s header and Husband’s second penalty in two games counted for naught as Accies were allowed to score a simple third and claim all 3 points.
