Harry is Sharpening Up For Airdrieonians

Date: Friday, 4th Aug 2023

he opening weekend of the SPFL cinch Championship for Season 2023-2024 has arrived and the Pars will kick-off against familiar foes in Airdrieonians at KDM Group East End Park.

Both sides have had a successful start to the campaign. Despite being knocked out of the Viaplay Cup, Dunfermline Athletic have shown they are more than capable of stepping up a division this term, having lost only one of their four Group F matches, against Kilmarnock.

Airdrieonians won their Group, which included newly-promoted Premiership side Dundee. Rhys McCabe`s men won all 4 matches and gained maximum points, which will boost the Diamonds` confidence heading into the league opener tomorrow.

Both sides have made minimal transfers over the summer break; most notably, Nikolay Todorov has departed James McPake`s men to sign for the visitors to West Fife tomorrow, while the Pars have added the experienced Michael O`Halloran to their squad.

But, the hosts have picked up three major injuries since returning to pre-season, with Kane Ritchie-Hosler, Matty Todd and Deniz Mehmet all suffering ankle injuries. With time running out ahead of Saturday`s clash and Mehmet being injured in training in preparation for the match, McPake has turned to a familiar face in Harry Sharp.

The 22-year-old was managed by McPake during his spell in the City of Discovery and comes into Athletic to help add competition to Max Little over the coming months until Mehmet returns to fitness. Either way, there`ll be a league debut for one of the Pars goalies tomorrow, in front of a bumper crowd.

Nearly 3,500 Season Tickets have been sold – it is all set to be a cracking opening day in Scotland`s second-tier, as Flag Day comes to Dunfermline Athletic.
