March 2009
Dunfermline 1-1 Dundee
Tue, 31st Mar 2009
This was a slightly subdued affair, and as tight as matches between these two teams have been recently. After going behind to a bad goal the Pars didn’t give up and their efforts were finally rewarded with a goal right on the 90 minutes.

Penalties are never the best way to settle a cup-tie, but few Pars fans will be complaining after a night of drama at Pittodrie saw the Pars progress to a Scottish Cup Semi-Final date with Falkirk. It wasn’t pretty, but it was brave and it was battling, the Pars more than matching their higher league opposition before producing the goods when it mattered.

Another home game, another defeat, with the promise of Tuesday’s performance soon evaporating in blustery conditions. Again the Pars started well, again they trailed to a sucker punch although this time, having thought they had equalised, they fell out of the game and finished poorly.

How Dunfermline managed to lose this game, and by 4 goals to 2, is somewhat bewildering. After playing some of their best football of the season they trailed at the interval to Livi’s only effort of the half; they score 2 fantastic goals in the second half, yet concede another 3. As they say, football is a funny game, but not many will be laughing in Fife.

As the biggest crowd of the day in Scotland streamed from the stadium, there were two slide marks clearly visible on the pitch just by the left hand post of the goal in front of the Norrie McCathie stand, witness to the efforts Nick Phinn had made a few minutes earlier to force home the equalising goal. The 9,696 spectators hadn’t witnessed a classic cup tie by any means, but had been given good value, with both sides having periods of ascendancy and the Pars doing well to come from behind.
