Unless there is something meaningful to play for (and I don’t really count a top four finish) the last home game of the season is always a slightly strange affair. Some players may be seen for the last time in a Pars shirt (although you don’t know who yet), sometimes (but not today)a youngster gets an unexpected debut, there are off-field distractions pre-match such as player- of-the-year presentations and children releasing balloons whilst simultaneously dodging stray shots from the warm-up shooting practice, and occasionally, you get a decent performance. Today we had much of that, Steven Bell completing a hat-trick with an injury time penalty as the Pars score four in the league at home for the first (and last) time this season.

This match summed up why Inverness will be champions, and Dunfermline will not – the home team looked strong and balanced, and when they needed it, produced enough of a performance with Adam Rooney and Richie Foran showing some SPL class with the goals.

Keeper Craig Samson was named man of the match, which is always a bit of a guide to how the game went, although it was more a question of poor finishing that kept the result in doubt until the 90th minute. McDougall’s strike early in the second half clinches the points after McManus cancelled out Campbell’s opener.

They say a week is a long time in politics – and we’ll soon know all about that – but half a week is a long time in football. After the Pars put on a tremendous performance and Ross County suffered midweek heart-break, roles were reversed with the visitors easing to victory with first half goals from Vigurs and Barrowman. Bell scores for the Pars but the late onslaught never materialises.
